Care Of Your I strume t
We re ommend that you always keep your instrument in a ase or gigbag when
transporting or storing it. This redu es the possibility of damage due to ni ks and jams,
and sudden hanges in limate or atmosphere.
Carry the ase with the lid towards your body. In the event that you have not properly
fastened the lat hes and the ase opens, the lid will fall against your leg and prevent the
instrument from falling on the ground. Never put your instrument in the trunk of your ar
or pla e anything on top of it.
Perspiration an damage the finish of your instrument so always wipe down your
guitar after playing or before storing with a lean soft loth. Polishing it with some high
gloss guitar polish or a good quality arnauba wax polish will prolong the durability of
the finish.

The above hart shows how different instruments are tuned. The first string, for
this purpose, is onsidered to be the smallest diameter. Tune the two outside strings
first, then tune towards the enter. This equalizes the pressure on the bridge and
allows rapid tuning.

Many individuals have their own method of tuning their instrument. We re ommend
the following method. A Steinberger guitar is tuned to A-440 utilizing a tuning fork,
ele troni tuner or pit h pipe.
All tuners work alike: a mi rophone or other sensor “listens” to your guitar. When
you play a string, the tuner analyzes the pit h and shows whether it’s flat (too low), sharp
(too high), or on-pit h. If needed, you rotate the guitar’s ma hine head as appropriate
to orre t the pit h.
Follow these tips for more accurate tuning.
• Strings retain orre t pit h longer if you tune up to pit h. If a string is sharp, tune it
somewhat flat, and then tune it up to pit h.
• Old strings are hard to keep in tune. Keep fresh strings on your guitar.
• Tuning strings below standard pit h de reases tension, so they’re easier to play.
Example: If you fret a string’s first fret and tune to that referen e instead of the open
string, the tuning will be a semitone flat. However, don’t tune down too far - with
insuffi ient tension, the strings might buzz against the frets as you play.
• After tuning your guitar, he k the string pit hes again. You may need to tune a ouple
times before the tuning “settles in.”

Overview
Headp ece: The fun tional advantage of Steinberger’s headless on ept dramati ally
improves balan e, ease of tuning, and tuning stability. All Steinberger instruments feature
the patented DoubleBall™ tuning system that allows string hanges in se onds.
Patented 40:1 D rect-Dr ve Double-Ball Br dge: Tune it up on e and don’t tune
it again until you hange strings. Providing mi rometer pre ision and stability, this
revolutionary advan e over traditional tuning methods allows string hanges in se onds
with no winding or utting. Just insert the ball end and tune it up.
R-Trem Tremolo: The Steinberger R-Trem offers the best of both worlds for guitar
players. In the lo ked position, the R-Trem a ts as a fixed bridge. In the un-lo ked
position, the R-Trem is a fully floating tremolo.
Zero-Fret: By using a “zero-fret” instead of a traditional nut, intonation is improved. It
also allows for use of varied string gauges be ause there is no nut slot to widen. A tion
at the 1st fret and beyond is more onsistent and improved as well.
Fold-Down Leg Rest: Another patented Steinberger innovation! Only 1/4” thi k when
folded, the permanently atta hed leg rest snaps out instantly to provide ex eptional
omfort and balan e when playing in the seated position.

and remove string ball at the headpie e end by lifting it
out of the slot. (Figure 2)
2: To install strings, start
by putting the ball end into
the headpie e first (small
ball on Bass), (Figure 2) THEN drop the other ball into
the tuner jaw. Tighten tuning knob until proper pit h is
a hieved. Stret h string and retune. (Figure 1)

Tremolo System

2: To use as a fixed bridge, the Lo king Lever should be in
the lo ked (Up) position. (Figure 3)
3: To use as a floating tremolo, the Lo king Lever should
be pulled out and down from the ba k of the tremolo into
the un-lo ked (Down) position. (Figure 3)
4: Adjust the Master Tune Knob so tremolo stays in tune
when un-lo ked.
Setti g Up Your Guitar
1: If you are NOT familiar with setting-up instruments, you should NOT attempt to do so
yourself. You should CONTACT a qualified guitar technician for assistan e.
2: Your Steinberger instrument is set-up prior to leaving Steinberger. Typi ally, you will
only need to set-up your guitar under the following onditions:
• You prefer your string height (a tion) higher or lower than originally set by the
fa tory.
• You de ide to install string gauges that are different from those originally installed
