Congrat lations!
As the owner of a new hearin instrument, you may once
a ain enjoy the sounds of your environment, and conversa-
tion with your family and friends.
These instructions as well as uidance from your Hearin
Care Professional will help you understand how your new
hearin instrument works. In this uide, you’ll find instruc-
tions about insertion, removal and use of your ARTISTM hea-
rin instrument. There are also tips and information on pro-
per handlin , cleanin , care and chan in of the batteries. In
addition, a troubleshootin section is offered for your refe-
rence.
Your hearin improvement with a hearin instrument
depends on the fit of the hearin instruments, the type and
de ree of hearin loss, and proper dia nostic testin . Of
course, a hearin instrument cannot restore normal hearin ,
and not everyone will benefit equally.
More than 80 percent of individuals with a hearin loss have
a hearin loss in both ears. Studies show that even when a
hearin loss is worse in one ear, most people with a hearin
loss in both ears will benefit from wearin two instruments.
Remember, a hearin instrument consists of finely-tuned
devices that have been specially desi ned and expertly
adjusted for your individual needs. Proper care and handlin
will ensure the best possible performance of your ARTIS hea-
rin instrument.

Battery insertion and removal
Handling the battery
The protective tab on your
battery should only be removed
when you are ready to use the
battery.
Inserting the battery
Open the battery compartment
with your fin ernail as shown in
the illustration.
Swivel open the battery compart-
ment door, if not already open.
Place the proper size battery so
that the "+” symbol on the battery
matches the "+” marked on the
battery compartment.
Three useful tips:
• The positive (+) side of the battery is always the
smooth side. You can reco nize the ne ative (-) side
by the colored rin .
• Always keep spare batteries with you.
• If you think you cannot chan e the battery by yourself,
ask someone to help you: a family member, friend or
your Hearin Care Professional.
7
Gently close the battery compart-
ment by pressin the bottom of
the door upward with your fin er
tip. Do not force the door shut. If
it does not close easily, check to
see if the battery was inserted
properly. When the battery door
is completely closed, your hearin
instrument is ready for use.
Removing the battery
Normally the battery drops out
when the compartment is comple-
tely open. If the battery does not
come out, li htly tap the instru-
ment or push the battery out with
a pencil as shown.
Low battery indicator
Your hearin instrument may be pro rammed to inform you
when the battery should be replaced for best system perfor-
mance. You may hear an intermittent series of beeps and/or
experience low amplification power or volume. Chan e the
battery when either of these occurs.
For ARTIS S e2e, ARTIS P e2e and ARTIS SP e2e
If you have an ePocketTM remote control, the battery status
can be checked usin the "data read out” function. (See the
ePocket user uide for more information).
8
Caution:
Keep batteries and hearing instruments away from the
reach of children. Batteries can be harmful if swallowed.
If swallowed consult a physician or a hospital immedia-
tely.
Change the batteries when any of the following occur:
- volume becomes softer or wea
- you hear a battery signal beep
- you see empty battery status on the display of
your ePoc et (only for ARTIS e2e systems).
Do NOT throw used batteries into household trash.
Return them to your Hearing Care Professional
for environmentally correct disposal.

Battery compartment door lock

battery compartment door lock.
They are intended to prevent the
unintentional removal of batteries
from their compartment.
To lock the battery compartment,
open the compartment door to the
first stop. Push the slide to the
ri ht with a suitable tool.
To unlock the battery compart-
ment a ain, open the compart-
ment door to the first stop. Push

Inserting and removing
yo r ARTIS BTE
Make sure that your hearin
instrument is turned off. Hold the
earmold between your thumb and
index fin er and insert it carefully
into your ear canal. You may find
it helpful to pull your ear sli htly
upward or to the back. Gently
work the earmold into its proper
position by adjustin it until it is
firmly seated in your ear. Once
inserted, you should be able to
feel if the earmold is placed cor-
rectly. Next, place your hearin
instrument behind your ear and
turn it on.
Tip:
Practice insertin and removin
your hearin instrument correctly.
An easy way to practice is to sit
down at a table. Place a mirror in
front of you and prop your elbows
on the table so you can uide
your hands easily and safely. This
will help you stay relaxed and
comfortable while you practice.
