Wireless Room Sensor Solution

Chapter 1–Quick Start

To quickly get your Wireless Room Sensor Solution up and running, follow these steps:

1. Install and power up Room Sensor Transceiver (RSX) device. To do this, see Room Sensor Transceiver

Installation Instructions.

2. Install and power up Wireless Room Sensor (WRS) device. To do this, see Wireless Room Sensor

Installation Instructions.

3. At the TEC, verify that the ROOM TEMP, RM STPT DIAL, and DI OVRD SW points are not overridden

(such as by WCIS, Database Mate, the field panel, workstation software, etc.). If points are overridden,

then release the points so the RSX can update them with WRS values.

4. If your RSX and WRS devices are not bound (normally performed during WRS installation), bind the

WRS device with the RSX device. To do this, see Binding the WRS/RSX Pair.

5. (Optional) If using Sensing Only or Sensing with Display WRS model, set RM STPT DIAL point (point

4) to desired value (see second note under Command Priority for details).

6. If desired, change RSX and WRS configuration settings. To do this, see Configuring WRS/RSX

Parameters.

7. Verify WRS communications with the RSX device. To do this, see Verifying WRS/RSX Communications.

8. (Optional) If TEC device needs to be commissioned/configured, you can connect to TEC device via

WRS HMI port connection (see Appendix C–Wireless TEC Commissioning and Balancing for details).

Chapter 2–About the Wireless Room Sensor Solution

Chapter 2 describes the features and overall functions of the Wireless Room Sensor Solution.

Why Use Wireless Room Temperature Sensor Communications?

Wireless communications between a room temperature sensor and TEC is a cost effective, reliable, and

flexible alternative to a hard-wired solution that differentiates our solutions from our competitors. For

example, in applications where wire must be run through conduit, electrician labor is expensive, and

architecture or building materials make running a cable difficult, a Wireless Room Sensor Solution is an

attractive alternative.

• Less cabling is required for room temperature sensor device installation. Low-impact installation

enables cost effective replacement of pneumatic and competitor equipment.

• Easier installation and re-configuring spares facilities the difficulties associated with rewiring to

support new cable routing.

• Factory installation of wireless transceivers by terminal box manufacturers further reduces

electrician involvement at installation time and reduces installation costs.

Hardware Components

The Wireless Room Sensor Solution is a wireless connection between P1 or BACnet TECs and room

temperature sensors that communicate via a radio frequency (RF) link instead of a hard-wired link. For

the Wireless Room Sensor Solution, a Wireless Room Sensor (WRS) communicates via point-to-point

wireless link to a Room Sensor Transceiver (RSX) device connected to a TEC device.

Wireless Room Sensor Solution

WRS and RSX devices are not supported by first-generation Siemens Wireless Field

Level Network (WFLN) devices.

Room Sensor Transceiver (RSX)

A Room Sensor Transceiver (RSX) connects to the RTS port of a TEC device. The RSX enables the TEC

device to wirelessly communicate with a Wireless Room Sensor (WRS). Each RSX supports one TEC and

one WRS, and each WRS supports one RSX and one TEC.

Figure 2. Room Sensor Transceiver (RSX).

The RSX provides an indicator light to furnish operation and communication link status. See Table 1 to

monitor current RSX status.

In Table 1, rapid flashes last .25 seconds, while slow flashes last 1 second.

Wireless Room Sensor (WRS)

A Wireless Room Sensor (WRS) is associated with a specific RSX/TEC. Using the wireless connection,

the WRS communicates its information to its TEC via associated RSX attached to the TEC’s RTS port.

Three WRS models are available:

•Sensing Only

•Sensing with Display – includes an LCD panel showing current room temperature, TEC occupancy

mode, TEC address, remaining WRS battery power, and wireless WRS/RSX link communication

strength(whenindiagnosticmode). Canbeconfigured to show room temperature in either

Fahrenheit or Celsius degrees.

•Full Featured (Sensing with Display, Override, and Setpoint) – in addition to the Sensing with

Display features, this model includes push buttons for users to override the occupancy mode

and adjust the temperature setpoint.
