Safety Consi erations
WARNING! Ensure that you rea all the safety instructions before using your PRO-1001
matrix.
Power Source
●The PRO-1001 requires a 12 volt .c power supply. In the event of loss of amage
to the power supply, only use a replacement from Scion. Part number PRO-0216.
Safety consi erations
●Position the power cable an any other connecte cables so they are not likely
to be walke on, pinche or where items can be place on them.
●Do not install the matrix in humi or amp con itions. Do not allow the matrix
to get wet, i.e. ripping or splashing water. Do not place water fille items,
such as vase, on top of the matrix.
●Do not place nake flame sources, such as can les on top of the matrix.
Ventilation
●Do not place or position the matrix close to other equipment that may get hot,
as this may cause the matrix to over heat. Provi ing goo ventilation will
prolong the life of your pro uct.
Servicing
●There are no serviceable parts in your matrix, when servicing refer to qualifie
service personnel.
●Consult your ealer if you are ever in oubt about the installation, operation
or the safety of the matrix.

1.0 PRO-1001 Installation
1.1 Installation and ventilation
The PRO-1001 series maybe installe with or without rack mounting ears supplie . It is
recommen e that the chassis has at least 1RU space above an below for ventilation purposes.
As this is not always possible it is recommen e that a CAT5 patch panel, cable management
panel or blank panel is use to create the airflow.

1.2 Connecting the power
Once mounte an secure in your chosen location, power shoul be applie using the esktop
power supply provi e . When the unit is first switche on the green LED in icators will illuminate
an the amber LED's will illuminate in a sequence from left to right. Once all LED's are illuminate
the PRO-1001 is rea y to use.
1.3 Connecting the signal inputs
RCA Phono sockets are provi e on the rear panel for vi eo an au io inputs.
●Composite vi eo is require for all 16 inputs an shoul be 1 volt p-p
●Line level (0 B) au io is require at 20KHz
When using Scart to RCA Phono cables it is important to check the IN/OUT configuration of the
cable. The PRO-1001 requires a Scart OUT cable to function.
When planning your hea en installation, it is useful to have a small TV or monitor in the cabinet for
local viewing uring installation an support. If there is a spare CAT5 port available, this local monitor
coul be user 32. This will enable viewing of all 16 inputs without removing or installing a itional cables,
or ismantling the install uring support.

1.4 Connecting infra-red emitters
Infra-Re emitters can be connecte using the sixteen 3.5mm jack sockets locate on the front
panel. Only emitters supply by Scion shoul be use (PRO-0209).
Each jack socket is numbere 1 to 16 from left to right an correspon s to the signal inputs on the
rear of the unit. If the signal outputs of a DVD are connecte to vi eo an au io inputs (1), the
infra-re emitter to control the DVD shoul be connecte to port (1) on the front panel. When a
user selects input (1) with the Scion remote (PRO-0201), the infra-re pass through is now
activate for controlling the DVD on input (1).
Note: The infra-re emitters shoul not correspon with the user, always the input.
1. System Diagram

1.6 Connecting RS232 Cables
RS232 ports are provi e for system configuration an control of the PRO-1001. The server software
has functions for changing (OSD) lettering, baring an forcing inputs to outputs.

The RS232 cable between the PC an PRO-1000 is supplie . Ensure the cable is connecte to the
RS232 IN socket an COM1 of your computer. Check to ensure both en s are secure before opening
the software.
When installing multiple PRO-1000 series pro ucts, RS232 OUT is provi e for aisy chaining the units.
When connecte to two or more units, the server software will automatically etect the number of outputs
in your configuration.
Notes:
It is the manufacturers recommen ation that no more than seven PRO-1000 series pro ucts be
stacke without further signal amplification.
When stacking PRO-1000 series pro ucts, RS232 cables must be use to link the chassis to prevent
ouble signal termination.
RS232 protocols are available for connecting the PRO-1000 series pro ucts to thir party equipment.

1.7 Connecting the CAT Output Cables
Before connecting CAT5 cables to the PRO-1001, the cable infrastructure shoul be teste using an
in ustry stan ar tester set to T568B. This will ensure there are no crosse pairs or open circuits, as
this may amage the PRO-1001 system. It is also important to ensure there are no thir party pro ucts
connecte to the other en , as this can also amage the system.
The cables can now be connecte to the RJ45 sockets locate on the front panel. When connecte ,
both green an amber LED's shoul remain illuminate . Shoul either LED begin to flash the CAT5
cable shoul be remove imme iately to prevent amage to the PRO-1001. See section (1.6) for
further information.
1.8 Interface Protection Circuit (IPC)
To protect the PRO-1000 from crosse pairs, short circuits an thir party pro ucts attache to the
receiving en of the cable. The PRO-1001 has a unique (IPC) embe e software monitoring all the
ports. This monitors all the ports an will act only on the port with the fault, leaving all remaining ports
fully functional.
Shoul it be necessary for the (IPC) firmware to shut own a port, the amber LED will begin to flash.
The flashing of the amber LED in icates a faulty cable an turns of the power to this port. This will
occur on both the PRO-1001 an the PRO-6001/4 receiver attache to the other en of the cable. It
is important that you remove the cable causing the problem an re-test before trying again.
Note: In the event of a flashing amber LED, the CAT5 cable shoul be remove
imme iately.

2.0 User Interface Receivers
2.1 PRO-6001 RJ4 to Scart Plug
Using the 3.5mm mono jack cable provi e , connect the (PRO-6003) IR etector to the receiver.
Ensure that both en s of the cable are fully inserte an that it is free from any sharp objects. Connect
the CAT5 patch cable an ensure that both LED's are illuminate an NOT flashing. Shoul the LED's
begin to flash, remove the CAT5 cable to prevent amage to the receiver an PRO-1001 unit. See
section 1.6 for more etails.
One the PRO-6001 is connecte an the LED's remain on, the receiver can be inserte in to the scart
socket of your isplay. The PRO-6001 applies power to the status pin (8) of your isplay forces the
isplay in to AV mo e.
2.2 PRO-6004 RJ4 to RCA Phono
Using the 3.5mm mono jack cable provi e , connect the (PRO-6003) IR etector to the receiver.
Ensure that both en s of the cable are fully inserte an that it is free from any sharp objects. Connect
the CAT5 patch cable an ensure that both LED's are illuminate an NOT flashing. Shoul the LED's
begin to flash, remove the CAT5 cable to prevent amage to the receiver an PRO-1001 unit. See
section 1.8 for more etails.
One the PRO-6001 is connecte an the LED's remain on, the receiver can be connecte to your
isplay via the RCA connectors.

2.3 Positioning the (PRO-6003) IR Detector
When choosing your location for the infra-re etector, be aware that some light sources inclu ing,
plasma an LCD screens, energy saving bulbs an irect sunlight will effect the operation of the
infra-re signal. When the PRO-6003 is receiving this type of hostile light, the PRO-1001 is likely
to become confuse . This causes the in ivi ual port to appear locke (no infra-re control). To
reme y this problem, re-locate the PRO-6003 away from hostile light sources until operation
resumes.
The illustration above shows the correct positioning of the PRO-6003 when locate on top or
un er the flat panel isplay. When positione over the front of the isplay, light from the
isplay will saturate the etector. To prevent this, simply move the etector backwar s until
normal operation resumes.

3.0 Software
The PRO-1001 server software provi es functions for configuring channel an user names uring
installation, channel baring an forcing.
3.1 Installing your PRO-1001 software
1. Insert the PRO-1001 installation CD-ROM in to your CD-ROM rive.
2. In the wi ows taskbar, click Start.
3. Select Run.
4. Type the following: D:\SETUP.EXE
If D is not your CD_ROM rive, substitute D with the correct letter.
5 Follow the wizar on screen instructions to complete your installation.
3.2 Selecting the serial port
When the program starts, the software automatically etects which serial port the PRO-1001 is
connecte to. Ensure the PRO-1001 is connecte an powere before running the application.
If the PRO-1001 can not be etecte , a ialogue box is isplaye allowing you to continue or
work of line.
Off line working enables all the features to be use , except that the settings are not communicate
to the control unit.
If subsequently, the PRO-1001 is connecte , communications can be establishe by selecting the
“Fin Port” option from the configure menu. The current settings will then be uploa e to the control
unit.
