SECTION 1 | Introduction
1.1 DESCRIPTION
SSW-R1-12B is a wired Remote Control used with selected models of SSW Series of
Inverters to switch on and switch off the Inverter from a remote location. It also
displays operational parameters using LCD display as follows:
• NumericalvalueofinputvoltageseenattheDCinputterminals
• Bargraphtodepictoutputpowerlevel
• Flashingfaultmessages:"InputFault"and"OutputFault"
Applicable Models of SSW Inverters
SSW-R1-12B Remote Control is designed to work with the following models of the
SSW Series:
• SSW-1000-12A
• SSW-1500-12A
• SSW-2000-12A

IftheON/OFFSwitchontheInverterisleftinONpositionwhenusingtheRemote
Control,thefollowingwillbeobservedonpressingtheON/OFFButtononthe
RemoteControl(1inFig2.1)forswitchingONandSwitchingOFFtheInverter:
• PressON/OFFButton(1inFig2.1)toswitchONtheInverter:TheRemote
Control will display the status of operation of the Inverter

OFF and the batteries will continue to drain due to the following energy
consumption:

Duetothepowerdrawnbythefans(thefansintheInverterrun
continuouslyaslongastheinverterisinONcondition)

3.1 DISPLAY
AGreenbacklitLCDdisplayisusedtodisplayoperationalparametersandfault
conditions. Details of information displayed are shown at Fig 3.1 below:
The backlighting has 2 intensities
of brightness – dim and bright:
• Whentheinverterissupplying
nopower(isinnoloadcondi-
tion)orlowerpowerbelowthe
minimum power display thresh-
oldof50Wto100W,thebar
graphwillNOTbedisplayed.
Also,theback-lightwillbedim
• Whenthepowersupplied
is more than the minimum
power display threshold of
50Wto100W,the1stbarwill
appear and the back-light will
brighten. More number of bars
will be displayed proportional
to power output level.

INPUT VOLTAGE (1)
Inputvoltageisdisplayedusing3-digit,7-segmentnumeralswith1decimal:
• Displays 88.8 momentarily during booting process when the remote is switched
ON.Aftercompletionofbooting,theactualvaluewillbedisplayed.
• Please note that the displayed voltage will be lower than the voltage at the
battery terminals by the amount of voltage drop in the DC side input wires.
OUTPUT POWER (2)
Outputpowerisdisplayedbyabargraphconsistingof14graduallyincreasingbars
for depicting increasing output power level.
• Allthe14barswillbedisplayedmomentarilyduringbootingprocesswhenthe
remoteisswitchedon.Aftercompletionofbootingprocess,theactualpower
level will be displayed by the appropriate number of bars
• Whentheinverterissupplyingnopower(isinnoloadcondition)orlowerpower
belowtheminimumpowerdisplaythresholdof50Wto100W,bargraphwillnot
bedisplayed.Also,theback-lightwillbedim
• When the power supplied is more than the minimum power display threshold
of50Wto100W,the1stbarwillappearandtheback-lightwillbrighten.More
number of bars will be displayed proportional to power output level.

Display when GFCI has tripped due to leakage on the Load Side (output side)
TheACoutputpoweroftheinverterisfedthroughaDuplexNEMA5-20outletwith
GFCIprotection.
AGFCIhasarelayoperatedmechanicalswitchthatmechanicallyswitchesoffthe
LoadSide(outputside)oftheGFCIfromitsLineSide(inputside)incaseofaground
fault/leakage.Itcomparesthecurrentsenttotheloadsideandreturnedback
fromtheloadside.Ifthereturnedcurrentislessbymorethan5to7mA(thislossof
returnedcurrentwillbeduetogroundfault/leakageontheloadside),theswitch
tripsanddisconnectstheACloadfromtheACsource.WhentheGFCIhastrippeddue
togroundfault/leakage,itcanberesetbypressingtheresetbutton.
FortheresetbuttontooperateandresettheGFCI,ACpowerisrequiredtobe
presentontheLineSide(inputside)oftheGFCI.IfACpowerisnotavailableonthe
LineSide(inputside)oftheGFCI,theGFCIwillnotreset.WhentheGFCItripsdueto
leakageontheLoadSide,thefollowingsymptomswillbeseen:
On the GFCI
• TheGreenLEDlightontheGFCIwillbeswitchedoff
On the Inverter
• GreenLEDonthefrontpaneloftheinverterwillcontinuetoremainlit
• Internally,theinverterwillstillbeworkingnormallyandtheratedACoutput
voltagewillbeavailableontheinternalLineSideoftheGFCI,butnotonthe
externalLoadSideoftheFGCIduetotrippedrelayintheGFCI.
On the LCD Display
• Power bar graph is switched off
• Backlight is dimmed
• Only the DC input voltage is displayed
WhentheoutputsideoftheGFCIoutletoftheinvertertripsduetogroundfault/
leakageontheloadside,theinverterwillstillbeoperatingnormallyandACpower
willstillbeavailableontheLineSide(inputside)oftheGFCI(butnotontheoutput
sideoftheGFCI).Thus, “OUTPUT FAULT” message will NOT be displayed when the
GFCI has tripped due to ground fault / leakage on the Load Side.Usethe“Reset”
buttonontheGFCItoresetthemechanicalswitchtotheONpositionafterremoving
the cause of the ground fault.

TheRemoteControlisprovidedwith3meter/10ft.lengthofCat5,Straight,

ends.PlugoneendofthecabletothereceptacleontheRemoteControl(3).Locate
the8P8C(8Position,8Conductor)ModularReceptacle(RJ-45)ontheinverterand
securely insert the other end of the plug on the Remote Control cable. For switching
onandswitchingofftheInverterusingthisRemoteControl,theMainON/OFF
Switch on the Inverter should be in the OFF condition.

CAUTION! If the ON / OFF Switch on the Inverter is left in ON position,
the Inverter cannot be switched off using this Remote Control. The Remote
Control will, however, continue to display the status of operation.

2 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
SSW-R1-12BmanufacturedbySamlexAmerica,Inc.(the“Warrantor“)iswarrantedto
be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service. The
warrantyperiodis2yearsfortheUnitedStatesandCanada,andisineffectfromthe
dateofpurchasebytheuser(the“Purchaser“).
WarrantyoutsideoftheUnitedStatesandCanadaislimitedto6months.Fora
warrantyclaim,thePurchasershouldcontacttheplaceofpurchasetoobtainaReturn
AuthorizationNumber.
ThedefectivepartorunitshouldbereturnedatthePurchaser’sexpensetothe
authorizedlocation.Awrittenstatementdescribingthenatureofthedefect,thedate
ofpurchase,theplaceofpurchase,andthePurchaser’sname,addressandtelephone
number should also be included.
IfupontheWarrantor’sexamination,thedefectprovestobetheresultofdefective
materialorworkmanship,theequipmentwillberepairedorreplacedattheWarrantor’s
optionwithoutcharge,andreturnedtothePurchaserattheWarrantor’sexpense.

NorefundofthepurchasepricewillbegrantedtothePurchaser,unlesstheWarrantor
is unable to remedy the defect after having a reasonable number of opportunities to do
so.WarrantyserviceshallbeperformedonlybytheWarrantor.Anyattempttoremedy
the defect by anyone other than the Warrantor shall render this warranty void. There
shallbenowarrantyfordefectsordamagescausedbyfaultyinstallationorhook-up,
abuseormisuseoftheequipmentincludingexposuretoexcessiveheat,saltorfresh
waterspray,orwaterimmersion.
Nootherexpresswarrantyisherebygivenandtherearenowarrantieswhichextend
beyondthosedescribedherein.Thiswarrantyisexpresslyinlieuofanyotherexpressed
orimpliedwarranties,includinganyimpliedwarrantyofmerchantability,tnessforthe
ordinarypurposesforwhichsuchgoodsareused,ortnessforaparticularpurpose,or
any other obligations on the part of the Warrantor or its employees and representatives.
There shall be no responsibility or liability whatsoever on the part of the Warrantor or
itsemployeesandrepresentativesforinjurytoanypersons,ordamagetopersonor
persons,ordamagetoproperty,orlossofincomeorprot,oranyotherconsequential
or resulting damage which may be claimed to have been incurred through the use or
saleoftheequipment,includinganypossiblefailureofmalfunctionoftheequipment,
orpartthereof.TheWarrantorassumesnoliabilityforincidentalorconsequential
damages of any kind.
