RESSENCE’S pursuit to improve the mechanical
watch is uniquely its own and the TYPE 2 is a perfect
example of the brand’s determination to build
products that question what a wrist watch can be
in the 21st century. The emphasis is to create a
better product as a whole - considering such
characteristics as legibility, wearability,
convenience, intuitiveness, and trust.

UNMISTAKABLY
RESSENCE
At the origin of every watch lays the similar
questions: How can we improve its functionality?
How can we intensify its user experience?
Ressence’s “less is more” philosophy produces
timeless watches while always adding a playful
and magical experience to them. They all share
the same inimitable DNA. The main disc, as well
as the auxiliary discs, revolve continuously,
behaving like moons around a planet. This
means that the face of your watch
changes perpetually - which is
the essence of Time.
DESIGNED IN BELGIUM
MADE IN SWITZERLAND
RESSENCE takes a distinctive approach to the
craft of contemporary Fine Watchmaking,
combining Swiss-made calibres with unmatched
self-engineered innovation. Although strikingly
innovative, the technologies implemented are
relegated behind the scenes. Ressence designs
and engineers their watches in Antwerp,
Belgium. To meet the highest quality standards,
your watch is produced and assembled in
Fleurier, Switzerland.

It was in 2010 on the ZERO SERIES
prototypes that we unveiled for the
first time the patented invention on
which rests our new expression of
Time: ROCS which stands for Ressence
Orbital Convex System. Fully designed
and developed in-house, this unique
horological complication module
is composed of co-planar discs and
rings of different sizes, curved to
match the bend of the glass that
covers them. Recto, the discs create a
flush dial. Verso, they serve as platina
and bridges to the module with a large
number of components - from 107
components for the TYPE 1 (ROCS 1)
up to 215 components for the TYPE
3 (ROCS 3) which drives a six-fold
display complication.
Each of the time indications of the
RESSENCE watches is generated
by the ROCS from a single piece of
informationprovided bytheautomatic
base movement: the minute.
With the ROCS, time-information is
displayed on a single surface, both
eyes see a same image (like words on a
sheet of paper), while on a traditional
watch, where the hands and dial are
superposed, the projected image is
different for each of the two eyes
because of its 3D nature. The choice
to focus on the minute disc is also
dictated by a concern for legibility.
In most cases, this is the information
you first look for when checking your
watch. Every minute that passes, you
observe a different dial.

LEVER SYSTEM
INNOVATIONS
LEVER SYSTEM
In the pursuit of improved ergonomics, the organic design
of the RESSENCE watches becomes imperative in obtaining
a completely sleek surface. The case is less present and the
crown has disappeared from the scene. Right and left-handers
are now equally well-served.
On TYPE 2 the crown is replaced by an alternative of ingenious
simplicity, namely, the folding lever on the caseback, which
assumes the functions of manual winding and time setting.
Behind the easy setting / winding mechanism system also lies
the logical principle that the watch only needs to be set when it
has stopped. Simply setting the watch winds it at the same time.

INNOVATIONS
E-CROWN
TYPE 2 main characteristic is the
multiple time zone automated setting
& adjusting thanks to the Ressence self-
engineeredelectronictechnology: the
e-Crown®. e-Crown®is an electronic
crown that automatically sets (e.g.,
while travelling or after not wearing
the watch) and adjusts (if needed) the
mechanical watch to the correct time.
e-Crown®is activated and controlled
by tapping the crystal on the dial
of the TYPE 2, offering a new tactile
experience and user-friendliness
to mechanical watches. Visually, it
is represented on the dial by the
selector sub disc and its four modes;
time zone 1 in yellow, time zone 2 in
green, Bluetooth in blue and e-Crown®
off in white. e-Crown®is light powered
via two solar cells. One always
available under the hour disc, the
second hidden around the e-Crown®
disc. You have two options to pre-set
the multiple time zones of the watch.
Either via the lever on the case back,
or very conveniently via an app using
Bluetooth connection. Wathever the
way you pre-set the time zones, they
are registered in the internal memory
of the watch. e-Crown®doesn’t rely
on radio or gps signals. You can leave
your TYPE 2 up to 3 months in your safe,
then simply put it back on your wrist.
Type 2 will set it-self automatically
to your last pre-set time zone and
release the barrel of the movement.
Driven by user experience, e-Crown®
combines the convenience and trust
of electronics with the emotion and
resilience of mechanical engineering.

HOW TO READ THE TIME

GETTING STARTED
You can use your TYPE 2 either with the help of electronics,
e-Crown®On, or without the help of electronics, e-Crown®Off.
e-Crown®Off
The TYPE 2 has a unique setting mechanism. Unlike traditional
watches, the TYPE 2 has no crown for winding or setting the
watch. The different actions normally carried out with a crown
are done by turning the caseback of the watch clockwise and/or
counterclockwise via the folding lever.
Important notice is to always turn slowly when winding or setting
(6 seconds to make one revolution). We recommend to first
manually wind the watch if necessary, then set the time.
1. MANUAL WINDING
Turning the caseback clockwise (when looking at the caseback)
will wind the watch manually over a short section (30°). The
winding section starts when you feel a slightly stronger
resistance. A winding sound is perceptible when rotating over
the section followed by a “click” sound when leaving it. While
manually winding, the time will change accordingly. It is therefore
recommended to wind by slowly oscillating the caseback back
and forth over the winding section about twenty times. (like a slow
disc jockey would). Attention, sometimes when going over the
winding section you feel a blocking… Don’t force it, just try again.
P16 P17

P18 P19
2. TIME SETTING
The hour indication is directly connected to the minute indication.
This means you will need to turn the caseback one time to add one
hour. It is recommended to set the time by turning the caseback
counter clockwise (when looking at the caseback).
e-Crown®On
We invite you to first download the e-Crown®app.
For IOS For Android
Then go through the Tutorials. Our user-friendly videos will help
you to learn how to activate e-Crown®, to switch modes, to
connect to the app, to set time zones and to charge e-Crown.
If necessary, have a look at the Troubleshoot. Follow simply the
steps if you have trouble to connect the app with your watch.
Everything should work out.
