INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on the purchase of your Rebelcell Start, the
lithium (LiFePO4) battery that has been engineered for use as
starter battery for outboards up to 250 Hp equipped with an
alternator.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS
Your Rebelcell li-ion battery (hereafter battery) has been engi-
neered with a safe and long user life in mind. It is important to
thoroughly review this instruction and follow the safety pre-
cautions. Not doing so may invalidate the warranty and result in
the malfunctioning of your battery and further damage.
• The Rebelcell Start is not suitable for use with (outboard)
engines utilizing a charging coil instead of an alternator.
The output voltage from such engines is unstable, and the
charging capacity is insucient for charging the Start
eectively.
• Avoid direct contact of your hands with both battery terminals:
danger of electric shock!
• Avoid reversing the + and – battery terminals when connecting
the battery. This can lead to irreversible damage to your
battery!
• Only use isolated tools when installing your battery. And keep
metal objects, such as jewelry, away from the battery.
• Your battery is ‘waterproof’ according to the IP67 standard. To
avoid issues x the battery (e.g. with xation bands) on a
vibration free surface to ensure that sliding is imposible and
the battery is never partly or fully exposed to water.
• When used outside the permitted standards (e.g. high load)
your battery will automatically turn o. No power will be
available until the battery can operate within these standards.
• Avoid damaging the battery by dropping it. In case of external
damage do not use your battery but have Rebelcell check for
proper and safe operation.
• Place the battery in the coolest environment possible. Do not
expose the battery to sources of direct heat such as (open) re,
heating or exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of
time. Long-term use in high temperatures (> 40 °C) has a
negative inuence on service life. At a temperature of 55 °C,
the battery will shut itself down until a normal operating tem-
perature is reached.
• The battery is classied as dangerous goods for transportation
purposes (ADR Class 9). Review the Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) on our website for more information.
• Your battery may only be opened by Rebelcell for repairs.
GUIDELINES FOR USE
Your battery has been designed for use as starter battery for
outboards up to 250 Hp only. It is NOT suitable to start other
machinery or equipment (such as cars, caravans, RVs, tractors
etc.). It is also NOT suitable as power supply for marine electro-
nics, depth sounders, lighting etc. You always need to connect
such equipment to a separate battery.
INSTALLATION
• Your battery is equipped with screw battery terminals in size
M5. Remove the protective caps on the battery terminals
before use and fully charge the battery with a suitable charger
(e.g. the 14.6V3A battery charger) as the battery is not fully
charged yet due to transport regulations.
• Connect your outboard cables (with M5 tongue connectors) to
the battery terminals and securely tighten the bolts with a
Phillips screwdriver: improperly xed terminals can be
dangerous and generate heat, which can lead to dangerous
situations and damage to your outboard and battery.
Use
The Start can deliver a starter pulse current of 300A (5s at -12 °C)
to 470A (5s at 15 °C). Thanks to the high starter current (also at
cold temperatures) and low self-discharge (< 5% per month) the
Start is the ideal starter battery for all seasons for outboards up
to 250 Hp.
Charging
Via the outboard alternator
After you start your outboard the battery is recharged via the
outboard alternator. The voltage regulator in your alternator will
charge the battery with the suitable charge current and voltage
(normal output voltage ~14.4V). The charge current is auto-
matically reduced as battery voltage increases, and will stop char-
ging when the battery is full. If the regulator does not function
properly your battery can be damaged. Any damages due to a
malfunction of the voltage regulator will void the warranty.
Via the battery charger
If the battery is deep discharged (voltage lower than 11.5V), for
instance after an extended period of not using your outboard, you
need to charge it with a suitable battery charger (e.g. the Rebelcell
14.6V3A charger). Charging an empty battery via the alternator
can damage your battery due to a high alternator charge current.
Read the warnings on the battery charger before use and follow
the instructions. Connect the battery charger by connecting the
red (+) and black (-) crocodile clamps of the battery charger to the
(+) and (-) M5 screw terminals of the battery. Connect the power
cord to the AC-outlet and charging will start. The charger LEDs
indicate the charging status and the charger will automatically
stop charging when the battery is full. Unplug the power cord
before disconnecting the charging cables from the battery. If you
use a dierent charger the warranty is void if damage occurs. The
batteries cannot be charged at temperatures below 0 °C.
Storage
When the battery is not in use for extended periods of time we
recommend to charge it to ~ 12.5V and disconnect it from your
outboard to prevent accidental discharge. Keep the battery in a
dry location (above 0 °C).
BMS and safety
The BMS protects your battery and contributes to a long service
life. Functions of the BMS are protection against deep discharge,
overcharge, high temperatures, high currents and cell balancing.
When certain safety thresholds are exceeded, the battery will
shutdown as a precaution and will turn itself on when the battery
operates within specication. If this does not happen automatical-
ly you need to disconnect your outboard in order to reset the
battery. After a few minutes you can reconnect your outboard.
The activation of the BMS may seem like a failure, but it is not. If it
occurs repeatedly this can indicate a malfunction of a component
in your electrical system or overheating of the battery. If this
happens contact your electrician to check your electrical system.

Your battery has a standard 3-year warranty from date of
purchase. Refer to our general terms and conditions for detailed
warranty conditions. Please retain and store your purchase receipt
as it is required for warranty claims.

EINLEITUNG
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Kauf Ihres Rebelcell Start, des
Lithium (LiFePO4) Akkus, der speziell als Starterbatterie für
Außen-bordmotoren mit Lichtmaschine bis zu 250 PS entwickelt
wurde.
SICHERHEITSVORSCHRIFTEN UND WARNHINWEISE
Ihr Rebelcell Li-Ion Akku (hiernach Akku) wurde mit besonderem
Augenmerk auf eine sichere und lange Lebensdauer entworfen.
Es ist daher wichtig, diese Anleitung sorgfältig zu lesen und den
Gebrauchsanweisungen zu folgen. Das Nichtbefolgen der Sicher-
heits- und Gebrauchsvorschriften kann eine Fehlfunktion des Ak-
kus, sowie Schaden und den Verfall der Garantie zur Folge haben.
• Die Rebelcell Start ist nicht geeignet für den Einsatz mit
(Außenbord) Motoren, die mit einer Zündspule an Stelle einer
Lichtmaschine betrieben werden. Die Ausgangsspannung
solcher Motoren ist instabil, und die Ladekapazität ist
unzureichend, um die Start eektiv zu laden.
• Der direkte Kontakt der Hände mit den beiden Polen des Akkus
ist zu vermeiden. Es besteht die Gefahr eines elektrischen
Stromschlags!
• Vermeiden sie ein “umpolen” (vertauschen des + und - Pols)
beim anschließen des Akkus.
• Benutzen sie beim Installieren des Akkus ausschließlich
isoliertes Werkzeug. Metallgegenstände wie Schmuck vom Akku
fernhalten.
• Ihre Batterie ist wasserdicht, gemäß dem IP67 Standard. Um
jedweden Problemen vorzubeugen, sollten Sie ihre Batterie auf
einer vibrationsfreien Oberäche xieren (z.B. mit Spanngurten),
um sicherzustellen dass sie nicht umherrutscht und die Batterie
nie teilweise oder vollständig dem Wasser ausgesetzt ist.
• Beugen sie Beschädigungen am Akku vor, die durch Fallenlas-
sen entstehen könnten. Im Fall einer externen Beschädigung
am Akku, sollten sie ihn auf korrekte und sicher Funktion bei
Rebelcell kontrollieren lassen.
• Der Akku darf nicht in der direkten Umgebung von Wärme-
quellen wie beispielsweise (oenem) Feuer, oder Heizungen
platziert werden. Der Akku sollte in möglichst kühler Umgebung
stehen. Langanhaltender Gebrauch bei hohen Temperaturen
(>40 °C) hat einen negativen Einuss auf die Lebensdauer. Bei
einer Temperatur von 55 °C schaltet sich der Akku selber ab, bis
eine normale Betriebstemperatur erreicht ist.
• Der Akku wird bei Transport als Gefahrengut betrachtet, ADR-
Klasse 9. Schlagen sie für weitere Informationen dazu im
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) nach, daß sie auf unserer
Webseite nden.
• Ihr Akku darf zu Reparaturzwecken ausschließlich von Rebelcell
geönet werden.
GEBRAUCHSRICHTLINIEN
Ihre Batterie ist für die Verwendung als Starterbatterie für ABM
bis zu 250 PS ausgelegt. Die Batterie ist NICHT zum Starten an-
derer Fahrzeuge oder Geräte (wie Autos, Wohnmobile, Traktoren
usw.) geeignet. Außerdem ist die Batterie NICHT als Stromver-
sorgung für z.B. Echolote, Beleuchtung, Elektronik usw. geeignet.
Sie sollten dieses Gerät daher immer an eine separate Batterie
anschließen.
INSTALLATION
• Ihre Batterie ist mit Schraubanschlüssen der Größe M5 ausge-
stattet. Entfernen Sie vor der Benutzung die Schutzkappen an
den Batterieanschlüssen und laden Sie die Batterie vollständig,
