TheST30Speedmaybeinstalledaboveorbelow deck where it is:
• easilyreadablebythehelmsman(normallyviewedateyelevel)
• protectedfromphysicaldamage
• atleast230mm (9in) from a compass
• atleast500mm(20in)fromradioreceivingequipment
• accessiblefrombehind for ease of installation andcablerunning
Note:
Topreventthebuild-upofmoisturetheinstrumentbreathesthrough
thebackcover.Forthisreasontheinstrumentmustbemountedwhere
thebackcoveris protected from direct water.
Therearcaseisfittedwithafoamgaskettoformawater-tightseal
betweenthe instrument and theinstallationface.

1. Makesurethesurfaceto which the instrument (1) is to be mounted is
smooth and flat.
2. Usethetemplate(supplied)tomarkthecentresforthe two fixing
holesand the instrument connector boss.
Note:
Toallowprotectivecoverstobefitted,adjacent instruments
shouldbesitednot less than 6mm (0.24in) from each other(116mm
centretocentremin.).
3. Drilltwo5mm(0.2in)diameter holes for the fixing studs (2).
4. Usinga60mm(23/8in)diametercutter,drillalocationholeforthe
instrumentconnectorboss.
5. Connectthe power supply and transducer cablestotheback of the
instrument(1)(seerelevantinstallation sections).
6. Screwthetwofixing studs (2) into the back of theinstrument(1).
7. Installtheinstrument(1)in the chosen location and secure with the
thumb nuts (3) provided.

Forstand-aloneoperation,usethe1metrecablesuppliedwiththe
instrument.
1. Connectthemouldedpowersupply plug to either SeaTalk connection
ontherearofthe instrument and run the free end back to the
vesselÕsdistributionpanel.
2. Cutthepowercabletolengthandconnectthe red wire to the positive
12Vterminalandthescreen to 0V. Protect with a 5A circuit breaker
orfuse.

StandardSeaTalkExtension or Interface cable.

1.5 Connection to adjacent ST30 instruments
TheST30Speed is supplied with a daisy-chaincablethatallowsadjacent
ST30instrumentstobelinkedtogether.Thedaisy-chaincablesupplies
powerto adjacent instruments andallowsdata to be transmitted and
receivedviatheSeaTalkbus.
Thedaisy-chain cable plugs into one oftheSeaTalkports on the back
cover.
