SDM Battery Series torque wrenches are reversible, non-impacting, torque controlled tightening tools and must
always be operated with the following:
• Fully charged battery
• Impact sockets with locking pin and o-ring
• Proper reaction arm with retaining ring.

2. Assembly
NOTE: Do not operate the tool before reading these instructions. If breakdown, malfunction or damage
occurs, do not attempt to repair, please contact Radial Torque Tools B.V. immediately.
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged.
2. Slide in the battery pack until it engages.
3. Fasten and secure the reaction arm on the jagged side of the gearbox with the retaining ring.
NOTE: These torque wrenches contain metal components that can be dangerous in hazardous areas.

6. To remove the reaction arm,
place a screwdriver at the
beginning of the retaining ring
and spread the retaining ring
open. Then pull the retaining ring
o and remove the reaction arm.
5. Then gradually press the
retaining ring until it is completely
closed.

EXIT ENTER / EXITUP / DOWN / LEFT / RIGHT
There are four LEDs on the display module. 3 on the top and 1 below the display screen.
The Status LEDs shall be used as follows:
Red - The last tightening cycle exceeded its high limit.
Yellow - The last tightening cycle ended below its low limit.
Green - The last tightening cycle ended between its high and low limits.
Blue - The tool has an active fault condition.

5.1. Programming keys
The image below shows the screen of SDM Battery Series screen module with descriptions of the
programming keys.

Angle Sets angle
Torque Sets torque
Clock wise To tighten the bolt
Anti clockwise To loosen the bolt
Unit of torque Indicates unit of the torque displayed
Target torque and angle Sets the torque and angle
Torque and angle high Sets the high torque and high angle
Torque and angle low Sets the low torque and low angle
Torque treshold The torque at which reading of the angle will be started
Free speed Indicates free speed of the SDM Battery tool
Shift down torque Indicates the shift down torque
Shiftdown speed Indicates shiftdown speed of the SDM Battery tool
Gang count
Shows the gang count number of bolts to be fastened
per group, gang, or set
Enable RF module Enables the RF module
Disable RF module Disables the RF module
Save changed settings Saves the changed settings
Ignore changed settings Ignores the changed settings
These values can be edited by entering “EDIT” mode and using “UP” and “DOWN” key.

5.3. Main screen
Pressing “ENTER” key after switching on the screen will show this image.
The PRIMARY SECTION - shows latest peak torque (for a torque strategy) or the latest peak angle (for an
angle strategy), with units.
The SECONDARY LEFT - shows the cycle count or gang count, if gang count is programmed.
The SECONDARY RIGHT - shows the active conguration number.
5.4. Conguration setting
This screen shows conguration setting used in the tool. Pressing “ENTER” will enable the edit mode.
“UP” or “DOWN” key can be used to update the conguration.
Pressing “ENTER” again will select the modied conguration.
!NOTE: Only Conguration 1 can be programmed through the display module.

5.5. Password screen
The password screen shows whether the tool is locked or unlocked. If the tool is locked the parameters of
the SDM Battery Series cannot be edited.
Password can be entered by pressing the “ENTER“ key and using the “UP” or “DOWN” key.

To enter the Tool ID, use password “1234” and then press "LEFT"
To set torque and / or angle and to enable/disable RF, use
password “FFFF” and then press "RIGHT"
5.6. Tool ID and softeware information
The PRIMARY SECTION - shows the Tool Location ID.
The SECONDARY LEFT - shows the Motor Controller Firmware version.
The SECONDARY RIGHT - shows the screen Firmware version.
Press "DOWN" to display the tool time in HH:MM:SS format.
Press "DOWN" again to display a screen for internal use only to view log location.
Press "DOWN" again to display a second internal use only log screen.
Press "DOWN" again to return to the Tool ID screen.
Press "RIGHT" to exit back to the Main screen.

5.7. Set torque and enable/disable RF
After screen is unlocked with a valid password, Pressing “RIGHT” key will allow you to set torque and / or
angle. See section 3. Setting Torque and / or Angle for more information.
This below screen allows the user to enable or disable the radio module. The selection on the left disables
the radio module and the selection on the right enables the radio module.
5.8. Gang count
The below screen shows the gang count number of bolts to be fastened per Group, Gang, or Set for
Conguration 1. This can be modied by entering edit mode.
5.9. Shiftdown speed
This screen indicates shiftdown speed of the SDM Battery tool. Shiftdown speed can be edited by
entering edit mode and updating using "UP" and "DOWN" key.

5.10. Shiftdown point cong
This screen indicates “Torque Threshold for shiftdown point”.
This can be changed by entering edit mode and updating using “UP” or “DOWN” key.
5.11. Free Speed
The below screen indicates free speed of the SDM Battery tool.
The value can be edited by entering editmode and using “UP” and “DOWN” key.
5.12. Torque
Torque “LOW” screen
Torque "LOW", “HIGH” and "TARGET" can be modied by entering edit mode and using “UP and “DOWN”
key.
