Introduction

The Duet™ delivers high performance in a small, fixed scanner that can also be

used as a targeted handheld scanner. Its innovative design maximizes produc-

tivity and minimizes operator stress, strain and fatigue.

This Quick Reference Guide provides an overview of scanner operation. For

more detailed information about setup, installation and programming, see the

User’s Guide and Programming Kit included in PDF format on the PSC Manu-

als CD. These manuals are also available for download from the PSC website

(http://www.pscnet.com). Print manuals may be ordered from your PSC rep-

resentative (see back cover for contact information).

Operational Modes

With two scan windows, the Duet scanner can easily adapt to either fixed/por-

table or targeted handheld scanning applications. The front scan window, with

its multiple scan pattern, is used for most retail items. The rear scan window

emits a single targeted scan pattern for handheld scanning of hard to read or

bulky items, or to read an individual bar code among many bar codes.

Fixed Mode

To use the scanner in Fixed Mode, seat the

scanner securely in the stand. The scanner

can read bar codes either in the sweep or

presentation mode to accommodate differ-

ent user styles.

Sweep Scanning

Move (sweep) the product, with the bar

code facing the scan window. Optimal

scanning distance is about 4.5 inches.

Presentation Scanning

Face the bar code toward the center of the

front scanner window. Move the product

with the bar code towards the scanner.

Portable Mode

Remove the scanner from the stand but do

not press the trigger switch. Present (or

sweep) the scanner to the bar code using the

front scan window.

3. Use the Pointer Line to help locate the center of the bar code before

pressing the trigger switch. Small bar code labels need to be close to

the scan window, while larger bar code labels should be farther away.

4. Use your thumb to press the trigger switch to scan the bar code.

Release the trigger switch when you hear the "good read" tone.

To continue scanning in the Targeted Handheld Mode, repeat steps 3 and 4,

placing the Pointer Line on the next item’s bar code, and pressing the trigger

switch.

Trigger Switch

Causes the scanner to enter the Targeted Handheld Mode. In this mode, the

scanner reads bar codes with a single scan line projected from the rear scan

window. Releasing the trigger switch returns the scanner to the Fixed/ Portable

Scanning Mode.

Pressing and releasing the trigger switch will also wake up the scanner, if it has

entered Sleep Mode, and return it to normal operation. This feature is a backup

to the motion sensor’s automatic wake-up function.

Indicator Lamp

• On dim – Indicates that the scanner is operational and ready to scan.

• Flashes once brightly when the scanner has read a bar code to indicate

a good read. This is usually accompanied by a good read tone from the

speaker.

• Flashing from dim to bright once per second indicates the scanner is in

the Sleep Mode due to an extended time of inactivity.

• Flashing repeatedly accompanied by a series of tones indicates a failure

has occurred. Contact your service personnel.

Speaker

• Normal Tone – A single tone when the scanner reads a bar code indi-

cates a good read.

• Passed Selftest – A series of four tones are emitted when power is first

applied to the scanner. This indicates the scanner passed the Selftest

and is operating properly.

• Error Tone – The speaker sounds a series of tones alerting the operator

of a possible system or component failure. If your scanner exhibits this

behavior or behaves erratically, contact your service personnel.

Changing The Volume—Scan the bar code below to cycle through the three possi-

ble volume settings (low, medium and high). Stop when the preferred volume

is heard.

Modes de fonctionnement

Le scanner Duet est doté de deux fenêtres de lecture et peut facilement

s'adapter à des applications fixes, portables ou de scanner à main avec ciblage

intégré. La fenêtre de lecture avant, qui présente plusieurs configurations de

lecture possibles, est utilisée pour la plupart des articles de détail. La fenêtre de

lecture arrière dispose d'une fonction de "ciblage d'objet" pour scanner à la

main les articles dont l'étiquette est difficile à lire ou les articles volumineux ou

pour lire un code-barre spécifique parmi une liste de codes-barres.

Mode fixe

Pour utiliser le scanner en mode fixe,

installez-le fermement sur le support. Le

scanner peut lire les codes-barres en mode

transfert ou en mode présentation afin de

convenir à divers types d'utilisateurs.

Scanning par balayage

Déplacez (balayez) le produit en orien-

tant le code-barre en direction de la

fenêtre de lecture. La distance optimale

de lecture est d'environ 11,4 cm.

Scanning de présentation

Placez le code-barre en direction du cen-

tre de la fenêtre de lecture avant.

Déplacez le produit en orientant le code-

barre en direction de la fenêtre de lecture.

Mode portable

Extrayez le scanner du support mais

n'appuyez pas sur le bouton déclencheur.

Appliquez (balayez) le scanner sur le code-

barre à l'aide de la fenêtre de lecture avant.
