VERVIEW

This manual provides information for the installation and maintenance of PESA’s Cheetah 144NE

Video Routing Switcher.

It is the responsibility of all personnel involved in the installation, operation, and maintenance of the

equipment to know all the applicable safety regulations for the areas they will be working in. Under no

circumstances should any person perform any procedure or sequence in this manual if the

procedural sequence will directly conflict with local Safe Practices. Local Safe Practices shall

remain as the sole determining factor for performing any procedure or sequence outlined in this

document.

Additionally, internal access to the frame compartments of the equipment that is described in this

manual is restricted to qualified service personnel only.

Chapter 2 INTRODUCTION

2.1 P

RODUCT

VERVIEW

PESA’s Cheetah 144NE Fiber Router System is a high performance, modular fiber optic switch

system for either ProAV or Broadcast HD-SDI and 3G-SDI applications, and fully supports

SMPTE 259M, 292M, 372M and 424M standards. The Cheetah 144NE Fiber is expandable in

sizes from 36X36 up to 144X144 in the same 4RU frame. It is fully compatible with the new QFX

Series of fiber media extenders for DVI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI. The frame supports redundant

power, control, and a hot-swappable 144X144 Crosspoint matrix. I/O cards allow easy expansion

in groups of 36 inputs or 36 outputs per card without the need to replace cards or frames.

The Cheetah 144NE Fiber is a modular design featuring four rear-panel slots for input buffer cards

and four slots for output combiner cards. Each input or output card supports up to 36 fiber optic

connections using standard LC-type fiber SFP modules. The I/O fiber cards are based on 1310nm

singlemode lasers but can be used in multimode applications with reduced performance

specifications. Singlemode fiber allows signal transports up to 10Km while multimode is limited to

approximately 400m with 50/125 cables.

With its small 4RU footprint, the Cheetah 144NE Fiber Router can be configured as a partially

loaded frame allowing for easy future field expansion. The system’s integrated Matrix Frame

Controller monitors the health of the unit and automatically recognizes any new I/O cards. Once

the cards are installed, the Cheetah 144NE Fiber Router can be easily configured with the

3500PRO or PERC 2000 System Controller software. The Cheetah 144NE Fiber Router can be

controlled from the PESA control system or by a third-party control system such as Crestron® or

AMX®.
