SAFETY
01. Avoid electrical hazards when installing, wiring, operating
and maintaining this solar panel. This solar panel generates DC
electricity when exposed to sunlight or other light sources.
02. For use in 12 V systems only.
03. Observe proper polarity throughout entire power cable
wiring route.
06. The included charge controller must be used indoors in a dry
environment.

batteries.
04. Work safely. Do not wear jewellery when working with
electrical or mechanical equipment. Use protective eyewear
when working with batteries or drills.
05. Follow all safety precautions of the battery manufacturer
(battery not included). Some batteries can release ammable
hydrogen gas. Do not produce sparks when working in locations
where ammable gases or vapours exist. Shield skin and eyes
from battery acid. Wash thoroughly with water if skin or clothing
come in contact with acid or any corrosive matter which may
have accumulated on the battery. Keep the terminals and
casing clean.

Example of potential application
Ensure your solar panel is placed so that its exposure to sun
is optimized. Be aware of objects such as trees or property
overhangs that may impede the panel’s ability to generate a
charge.

INSTALLATION CONTINUED
Under direct sun, connect the solar panel
to the green LED voltage tester. If the LED
illuminates, proceed with installation.

02.
Connect the solar charge controller to a
12-volt battery using the quick-connect
battery clamps observing correct polarity
(RED/POSITIVE)(BLACK/NEGATIVE). Ensure
the two battery clamps never touch
each other, and do not leave the battery
clamps connected to the solar panel
and not connected to the controller or
battery. Do not leave battery clamps
connected to the charge controller
without connecting the battery.
Connect the quick-connect extension
cable to the solar panel and then
complete the connection into the SOLAR
side of the 7 Amp Solar Charge Controller.
Keep the solar panel connected and
connect the green LED voltage tester
to the BATTERY side of the solar charge
controller. The green LED should now
illuminate and you can proceed with the
installation.

TROUBLESHOOTING
QUESTIONS ANSWERS
Cleaning of the solar panel may be performed with a clean, damp cloth. Any
other maintenance to the unit should be performed by a qualied service
professional or contact our experienced customer service team for further
instruction.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Can I overcharge my battery? No, the included solar charge controller regulates
against any overcharge.
Why does my battery not appear to
be charging?
It is common to have issues with 12 V batteries, check
their voltage regularly. Some batteries may not reach
the charge controller’s designated ‘FULL’ status. This is
normal, as there are many different battery technol-
ogies. Battery usage and condition can also affect
this behaviour.
Can my panel be left outdoors
without a protective covering?
Yes, the solar panel has been weatherproofed and
can be mounted outdoors without any additional
protection.
Is the solar charge controller
weatherproofed? No the solar charge controller must be used in a dry
and well-ventilated environment.
Can I test the panel and/or charge
controller with a multimeter?
Yes, in open circuit (panel not connected to the con-
troller or battery) under full sun a multimeter should
read 16 – 21 Volts DC. When the charge controller is
connected to the panel (again without connecting
to the battery) the voltage should still read 16 – 21
Volts DC.
Can I run my 110 V appliances with
my solar power system?
Yes, you can run 110 V appliances with the use of an
inverter (not included) which would attach to your
battery to change the battery’s 12 V (DC) energy
into 110 V (AC).
What kind of battery can I recharge? See “Choosing Your Battery” on page 9.

CHOOSING YOUR BATTERY INVOLVES SOME CAREFUL CONSIDERATION. YOU CAN
CONSULT WITH A LOCAL BATTERY SUPPLIER OR FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE GUIDELINES.
- Choose only rechargeable 12 V batteries.
- SLA (Sealed Lead Acid), GEL, and AGM are all ideal choices. We do not advise
using lithium-ion batteries with this solar panel.
-“Deep Cycle” or Marine batteries are optimum for solar-charging systems.
They allow discharge and recharge characteristics beyond a standard
vehicle battery.
- Batteries are related in amp
-
hours
-
this denes a battery’s ability to hold and
release its charge. The higher the amp-hour rating the more power available.
