2Introduction
This document describes two simple wa s of getting a quick start with MultiQ digital signage using
a Media pla er 4 or Media pla er 5 combined with a 16:9 widescreen monitor such as the MultiQ
42DS monitor especiall designed for digital signage.

In addition to a media pla er and a monitor ou need a computer with a web browser along with
some images to be used as content. You ma use images that ou have shot using our own digital
camera or pictures that ou have created using our favorite drawing software. Also ou ma want
to add video clips that ou have shot using our own camera or that have been downloaded from
YouTube or similar sites. Do not forget that content that ou have not created on our own ma be
cop right protected.

3Introduction to the MultiQ range of products
The MultiQ digital signage- and kiosk s stem combines traditional digital signage with interactive
cutting edge kiosk technolog . The products are designed for long lifetime, high reliabilit and low
power consumption. Also the s stem has designed for scalabilit allowing for eas operation of
single media pla ers or media monitors in standalone mode as well as large s stems including
thousands of media pla ers or media monitors located at hundreds of sites.

its own management system.
The MultiQ digital signage and kiosk s stem consists of 6 versions of media pla ers and media
monitors.

Figure 3. In the MultiQ digital signage and kiosk product range there are four versions of media monitors
with integrated media players and two versions of media players that are to be connected to separate
monitors.
The MultiQ product range includes media pla er and media monitors are designed for long lifetime
expectanc . The units do not include an moving mechanical parts such as fans or hard drives.
Instead the low power consumption, less than 10 watts for the standalone media pla ers and 40
watts for the media monitors with integrated media pla ers allow for passive cooling with no fans.
Since there are no fans there will be ver little accumulation of dust in the units. The power suppl
is a separate unit allowing for eas replacement.
Instead of hard drives, flash memories used for storing the content.
Linux is used as operating s stem in the units. This eliminates license costs and the need for
forced securit updates. Finall it makes it possible to use a distribution of Linux that is especiall
adapted to digital signage. The Linux s stem does onl occup about 1 GB of the flash memor .
The internal flash memor is 2 GB in media pla er 4 and media monitors 4 and 5. In media pla er 5
and media monitors 6 and 7 the memor size is 4 GB (allowing for 3 GB to be used for content).
However if necessar , it is possible to connect a separate standard USB stick to extend the
memor .

Media pla ers 4 and 5 are intended as separate units to be connected to an monitor having a DVI
or HDMI input. There is a special version of the separate media pla er that supports VGA as an
alternative to DVI and HDMI.
Other differences between the products are processor capabilit , internal memor size and flash
memor size.
This user manual focus on how to set up stand alone media pla ers, media monitors 4 & 5.
The media monitors and media pla ers can also be operated in a centrall managed mode with a
central management server. This is also described in separate manuals.

Getting to know media player & 5
Media pla ers 4 & 5 are to be connected to an external monitor. In the sections below the controls
and indications of the media pla ers 4 and 5 are described.
.1 Unpacking
Please make sure that the following items are included in the package and in good condition. If ou
find that an items damaged or missing, please contact our retailer immediatel .
•One media player
•AC/DC adapter with 12V DC output
•AC power cord
•A quick start guide
.2 Mounting
Mounting and attachment hardware is not included. The media pla er has a VESA 75 x 75 mm
interface. The media pla er can be mounted on the back of the MultiQ DS 42 monitors using a
separate bracket.

.3 Connections
The media pla er has connections for DVI-D (digital onl ), Audio (digital and analogue), LAN and
USB I/O.

. Hardware Installation
Connect the DVI-D output to the monitor to be used. If the monitor has an HDMI input a conversion
cable should be used. A monitor must be used when configuring the media pla er.
The audio outputs ma be connected to analogue or digital inputs on external audio s stems.
The LAN port must be connected to a LAN with Internet access. If ou have no touch panel ou
need a separate mouse to be connected to the second USB port.
If a separate touch panel monitor is to be used, one of the USB ports should be connected to the
touch panel interface of the monitor.
During setup a USB ke board should be connected to one of the USB ports. Do all connections
before powering up b connecting the external power suppl .
