1. Introduction
TENS stands for
“Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.”
TENS is a battery powered device which sends small electrical
impulses through electrodes that are placed on the skin
to stimulate the sensory and motor nerves which provides
a sensory stimulus that blocks/reduces the perception of
pain. TENS is a non-invasive, non-addictive, drug-free pain
management system. TENS systems are designed for the
treatment of chronic, acute, and post-operative pain. The
relief you experience depends on how effectively you use the
system. When properly using TENS the results are immediate
and can be used for extended periods of time without negative

The instructions in this manual are designed to cover most
operational issues. However, if you have questions about your
particular situation, or if a problem arises, please contact your
physician or therapist.

3. Warnings and Precautions
CAUTION
FEDERAL LAW (USA) RESTRICTS THIS DEVICE TO
SALE BY OR ON THE ORDER OF A PHYSICIAN SO
LICENSED BY THE STATE.
Never use the device if you suffer from any of the following:
- Epilepsy
- Pregnancy
- Malignant tumors
- Feverish conditions
- Contagious diseases
- Skin sensory disorders
- Blood pressure disorders
- Heart diseases or disorders
- Undiagnosed pain syndromes
- Varicosities, Phlebitis, or Thrombosis
Undiagnosed pain syndromes:
Avoid the use of TENS if your pain syndromes are
undiagnosed, until etiology (the cause or origin of a disease)
People wearing pacemakers:
The TENS stimulator could affect the ability of certain types
of cardiac pacemakers to work properly. TENS is not
reccomended if you wear a cardiac pacemaker.
Pregnancy:
The safety of the use of TENS devices during pregnancy has
not been established.

Heart patients:
Take adequate precautions before using the stimulator if you
suffer from heart diseases, as clinical data is not sufficient to
prove the safety of the use of TENS for these patients.
Monitoring equipment:
Avoid the use of TENS in post-operative recovery rooms if
you are on a heart monitor. Other electronic monitoring
equipment such as EKG monitors and EKG alarms may not
operate properly when TENS is in use.

Keep the unit away from sources of high magnetic fields such
as fields

Skin conditions:
Continued use of electrical stimulation in the presence
of skin irritation may be harmful. If skin rash or other
unusual symptoms develop while using the system, turn the
device off, remove the electrodes from your skin and seek
professional advice. Discontinue stimulation until the source
of skin irritation is determined. Consider moving the electrodes
to an adjacent position if you wish to continue stimulation.
Repotsitiming may be done routinely if the device is being used
to treat chronic pain.
Never use the device when engaging in any of the following
- Operating machinery
- Operating a vehicle
- Riding a horse or other animals
- If you are close to any
- Sporting or engaging in heavy activities
- Bathing/showering or swimming

Pain of central origin:
TENS is ineffective for pain of central origin including
headache.
Symptomatic treatment:
TENS is a symptomatic treatment and, as such, suppresses the
sensation of pain which would otherwise serve as a protective
mechanism.
Children:
Keep the system out of the reach of children.
Children under the age of 18 should not utilize TENS without
direct supervision of a prescribing physician.

4. Operating Instructions
a. General Description
DeXtra TENS is your personal Transcutaneous Electrical
Nerve Stimulator (TENS). The Dextra TENS provides the best
results when used with DexTrode brand electrodes. One (1) pair
of electrodes can be connected to each output channel using the
leadwires supplied. The stimulation pulses are transferred from
the device through the lead wires to the electrodes. The intensity,
pulse rate, mode of stimulation, and timer are all adjustable on
this device.
b. Key Pad
On/Off Key
Turns the device on or off. The output intensity in either
channel is set to zero when the device is initiated.
Time Key
Press TIMER KEY to change the timer setting. There are four
(4) selectable timer preset values (15min, 30min, 45min and
60min). Timer adjustment is not allowed when intensity is
greater than zero. The timer will start counting when intensity
is greater than zero. When the timer counts down to zero, the
device will turn off automatically.

Program Key
Press PROGRAM KEY to change to a different program. During
any program change, the intensity will return back to zero.
Intensity UP/DOWN Keys:
Adjust the output level of the device; two (2) sets of UP/DOWN
keys for the corresponding channel 1 and channel 2 intensity
adjustments.
Pulse Frequency UP/DOWN Key:
To activate pulse frequency adjust function, press either
FREQUENCY UP or DOWN KEY. The display will show
current pulse frequency and pulse width. Then, press the
PULSE FREQUENCY UP KEY to increase the pulse
frequency or press the PULSE FREQUENCY DOWN KEY
to decrease the pulse frequency. If no key is pressed for at
least five (5) seconds, the device will exit the pulse frequency
mode automatically.
The pulse frequency in programs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8
has selectable pulse frequency adjustments from
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,22,24,26,
28,30,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,75,80,85,90,95,100,105,110,
115,120,125,130,135,140,145,150 in 42 steps.
