IncodeX Stream
HD/SD Live Streaming Encoder
Thank you for purchasing the IncodeX Stream HD/SD live streaming encoder. The IncodeX Stream™
live streaming encoder combined with the subscription-based VieBit™ streaming service allows you
to create your own affordable, high quality live streaming channel.
The IncodeX Stream encoder captures a live video/audio signal from a LEIGHTRONIX server or other
video source and converts the signal into an outbound, HD or SD H.264 digital video stream. The
outbound stream is directed to the VieBit streaming service’s web servers and then simultaneously
distributed to local and worldwide viewers.

1. Install it.
The IncodeX Stream encoder may be left as a standalone, tabletop unit or mounted into a rack as follows:
a. Insert the IncodeX Stream into the rack, aligning the holes of the unit’s mounting bracket with those of the rack.
b. Secure the IncodeX Stream to the rack with user-supplied rack screws.
2. Plug it in.
Using a straight-through RJ-45 Ethernet cable,
connect the IncodeX Stream Ethernet port
directly to a cable or DSL modem or to a 10/100
BASE-T switch on your TCP/IP network. To
check your network connection, look at the Eth-
ernet LEDs above the Ethernet port and com-
pare to the table at left.

LED Position State Description
Left Off Connection speed is 10Mb/s
Blinking amber Connection speed is 100Mb/s
Right Off Ethernet link not established
Steady on green Ethernet link established.
Attach your network, power, and signal wiring to the IncodeX Stream according to the instructions below:
Connect the included power cable to the
power cord connector and then plug the
other end into an AC power source.
SETTING UP THE INCODEX STREAM
Leave empty rack spaces above and below the IncodeX Stream. The
IncodeX Stream should not have anything stacked on top of it.
If using, connect your
analog audio source to
the audio inputs.
LEIGHTRONIX strongly recommends the use of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with the IncodeX
Stream. Damage from power loss or spikes is not covered under warranty.
Once the IncodeX Stream encoder is installed, wired, and congured with network settings accord-
ing to the steps in this section, the encoder will automatically start converting the incoming video/
audio input signal into an H.264 video stream. As long as the IncodeX Stream is powered on and
has a connected video input, the encoder will continually output a video stream.
NOTE: For optimal performance, use a dedicated,
DSL Internet business connection with your
IncodeX Stream.
If using an analog video source,
connect your source to the com-
posite video input.
If using a digital video
source, connect your source
to the SDI video input.

3. Congure Your Network Settings.
Automatic Network Conguration
The IncodeX Stream is shipped Dynamic Host Conguration Protocol (DHCP) enabled, meaning that if your network
uses a DHCP server, your encoder will automatically obtain an IP, subnet mask, and gateway address when it is con-
nected to a power source and your network. Skip to Step 4 on page 6.
NOTE: To quickly check if your network is connected to a DHCP server, go to a computer connected to your network
and see if it has been set to use DHCP.
Manual Network Conguration
If your network does not use a DHCP server, you will need to obtain a static IP, subnet mask, and gateway address for
your IncodeX Stream from your network administrator and then replace your IncodeX Stream’s default static network
addresses as follows:
a. Connect your IncodeX Stream’s Ethernet port to the Ethernet port on a laptop or PC with an Ethernet cable.
b. Change the IP address of your computer to a static 10.xx.xx.xx IP address that does not match the default static
IP address of your IncodeX Stream, 10.11.31.2. A good rule of thumb is to just add one to the last value in the
IncodeX Stream’s default static IP address, so you would use “10.11.31.3.”
c. Access the IncodeX Stream’s browser-based interface as follows:
i. Open an Internet browser on the computer connected to your IncodeX Stream.
ii. In the URL address line, enter the IncodeX Stream’s default static IP address, 10.11.31.2, and press enter.
You will be prompted to enter a username and password (see Illustration 1).

iii. In lowercase, enter “admin” into the “User name” eld and ”stream” as the password. Click “Ok” to open the
IncodeX Stream interface in your Internet browser window (see Illustration 2).
iv. Stop the IncodeX Stream from encoding by clicking “Stop Encoder.”
v. Select the “Static” mode from the rst “Network Settings” drop down eld.
vi. Enter the IP, subnet mask, and gateway addresses you have obtained from your network administrator into the
corresponding elds.
NOTE: Be sure to write down your static IP address in a known location so that it is available if needed, as this
information will be needed to access your IncodeX Stream’s interface in the future.
vii. When you have nished entering in your network settings, click the “Apply Settings” button. Your IncodeX
Stream will automatically reboot to apply the network address changes. The IncodeX Stream will resume encod-
ing once it restarts.
viii. Detach the IncodeX Stream’s Ethernet port from your computer or laptop and then connect the encoder to your
network.

4. Congure Your Firewall.
In order for the VieBit service to receive a video stream from your IncodeX Stream, open the rewall ports shown in
Table 1 between your IncodeX Stream’s media access control (MAC) address and the domain names and IP address
also specied in Table 1.
NOTE: Your IncodeX Stream’s MAC address is its 12 character serial number.
