A. INSTALLING THE BATTERY
1. To access the battery compartment, turn the battery screw counterclockwise to open the latch and
remove battery cover.
2. Position the battery-lift strap, place the Lithium-ion battery and snap into place.
3. Replace the battery cover by positioning the top prongs first and sliding cover into place.
Tighten battery screw by turning clockwise.
B. CHARGING THE BATTERY
Important Note: The main battery charges the backup battery in the XP Series unit. Once the main battery is
fully charged, do not remove it from the unit for 24 hours. During this period the device cannot maintain any
user data if the battery is removed.
To charge the battery using the USB or Serial Cable Accessory:
a. Connect the power supply to the USB or Serial cable accessory.
b. Connect snap-on end of USB or Serial cable accessory to bottom of device making sure the word “TOP”
on the connector faces front.
c. Insert appropriate AC plug and plug in the power supply. Use only easily accessible wall outlets that are
easily reached with the length of supplied power cable.
To charge the battery using the Single-Slot or Four-Slot Cradle:
a. Connect the power supply to the cradle.
b. Connect the line cord to the power supply.
c. Insert appropriate AC plug and plug in the power supply. Use only easily accessible wall outlets that are
easily reached with the length of supplied power cable.
d. Place the XP device in cradle. The LED will illuminate to confirm connection (orange indicates charging,
green indicates fully charged and red indicates fault).
e. The battery is fully charged in approximately 2 hours.
f. Charge a spare battery by placing the battery in the spare battery well with label up and connectors lined up.

Getting Started
A. CALIBRATING THE SCREEN
The first time the device is turned on, the Welcome Utility appears. To set up the device, follow the on-
screen instructions using the stylus to tap the exact center of each target
Note: If your XP Series device came pre-loaded with a custom software application, the Welcome Utility may
not appear.
B. ATTACHING THE HANDSTRAP
To attach the handstrap, first align the two holes in the metal handstrap anchor at the two handstrap screw
ports. Then, for each side, place one of the screws provided into a lined up screw hole/screw port and turn
clockwise. Secure both sides before fully tightening down the screws.
Separate velcro to extend the handstrap and feed loose end through the handstrap bar. Fasten velcro together
to close the strap. Fit strap and secure device to user’s hand by adjusting velcro as needed.

BARCODE SCANNING DEMONSTRATION SET-UP
1. Tap the home button, and tap the Janam icon.
2. Tap the barcode scanner demo (application menu) in the upper left corner of the screen to display the setup
options.
3. Three menus will appear (setup, OCR, options).
4. After starting the demo application, a variety of options become available:
» Beep sound: you can enable or disable the sound whenever a successful barcode or optional character
recognition (OCR) occurs.
Note: you can control the volume of the sound from the prefs application located in home or main menu. In
the upper right corner’s drop-down menu, click and select general to change the volume.
» Light mode: This menu presents several options. You can turn off the illumination and aimer; turn the aimer
only on; turn on the illumination only; or turn on both aimer and illumination.
» Bar type: Display only – shows the symbology of the barcode scanned.
» Bar data: Display only – shows the result of the decoded object.
5. Tap the hardware test option to review all the functions of the scanner and determine if everything is working
properly. Select each item individually (aimer on, illumination on, vibrator on, red LED on, green LED on, beeper
on, keypad backlight on) to verify that all hardware is working properly.
6. Tap OK to return to the main demo.
7. Tap options > symbology config.
8. Tap enable all to let the scanner decide the best method of decoding the barcode.
9. Tap OK to return to the main demonstration screen.
10. Point the scanner at a barcode, and press any of the three barcode scan buttons on the device (left/right trigger
or center scan button). The results will display after you achieve a successful scan.
