1Compression Card Installation
1.1 Hardware Installation
Take HIKVISION DS-42xxHCI/HFVI series audio/video compression card as example.
For the other HIKVISION compression card models, the hardware installation steps are
similar as DS-42xxHCI/HFVI series.
1.1.1 Product Description
DS-4216HFVI (Figure 1-1)
Support 16ch 4CIF/2CIF/CIF/QCIF real time encoding
Support up to 16ch 4CIF (main stream) +16ch CIF (sub stream) encoding on dual
stream mode
Support 1 channel analog TV Out and 1 channel analog audio output

Notice
1. All the recording performance testing is done under normal office scene with color
camera input, and the recording performance may differ according to the surveillance
scene:
1) DS-4208HFVI / DS-4216HFVI (Performance of each DSP):
8ch 4CIF real time encoding at 4Mbps/channel
2) DS-4216HCI (Performance of each DSP):
16ch CIF real time encoding at 2Mbps/channel
2. Please kindly refer to the website or contact technical support for the latest updated info
of card performance.
2. Recording performance may be slightly different according to the card number and
hard disk read/write efficiency of the system.

1.1.2 Compression Card Installation
For the DS-40xx series card, users need to connect external audio cable to the PC motherboard
for live audio.

The audio cascading cable connects between multiple DS-40xxHCI/HSI cards and feeds live audio
data to each of them (Figure 1-4).

The audio cable connects between DS-40xxHCI/HIS and PC motherboard (Figure 1-5).
Card Installation:
1. Shut down the PC and make sure the power-supply is disconnected (Figure 1-6).

2. Loosen the screws (Figure 1-7).

3. Open the PC chassis (Figure 1-8).

4. Put Down the PC chassis (Figure 1-9).

5. Plug the compression card into an empty PCI slot. You may need to take off the covering pieces on
the PC back panel first (Figure 1-10, Figure 1-11 and Figure 1-12).

6. Fix the compression card with a screw (Figure 1-12).

7. Repeat step 5 & step 6 till all the cards are installed on the motherboard.
8. Connect audio cables (Figure 1-13) (Only for DS-40xx series card)
Connect audio output of the first HCI/HSI card with the audio input of the second HCI/HSI card;
connect the audio output of the second HCI/HSI card with the audio input of the third HCI/HSI card, the
rest may be deduced by analogy.
Connect the last audio output of HCI/HSI card with the CD_IN interface of PC motherboard or PC
sound card.

9. Connect external video/audio cables, the red cables are for video connection and white cables are
for audio connection.
