Introduction

Dear customer,

Thank you very much for choosing a HDQLINE series display designed and build by SONOVTS

Media GmbH.

Please read this manual carefully to get familiar with control and operation before using the

display. This is for your own safety and to avoid damage on the display. To ensure this please

pay close attention to the safety and operating instructions.

1. Precaution

1.1. Safety Instructions

For your own safety and correct operation of

the display please adhere to the following:

• Do not open the frame and do not make

any changes to the device. Opening

the frame will void the warranty claim

against SONOVTS Media GmbH.

• Some components contain high voltage

and should be handled by trained techni-

cians only.

• Refer servicing to qualified service per-

sonnel only. Servicing is required when

the device has been damaged in any

way, such as power-supply cord or plug

is damaged, liquid has been spilled or ob-

jects have fallen into the device, the de-

vice has been exposed to rain or mois-

ture, does not operate normally or has

been dropped.

• Keep liquids away from the display. Liq-

uids can lead to short-circuits and dam-

ages inside the display. In case of liq-

uid getting into the display remove power

cord immediately.

• Avoid touching the display surface.

• In case the LCD-Panel is damaged never

touch the leaking liquid crystal. In case of

liquid crystal coming in contact with any

part of the body or in the eye, wash it off

immediately and contact a doctor.

• Do not use the device near water.

• Protect the power cord from being walked

on or pinched particularly at plugs,

convenience receptacles and the point

where they exit from the device.

• Use only attachments/accessories speci-

fied by the manufacturer.

• Unplug the device from the wall outlet if

it is not used for several days or more.

THIS DEVICE MUST BE EARTHED.

1.2. On Installation

• Do not set up the display at inappropri-

ate places or unstable surfaces like racks,

tripods, mounting brackets or tables from

which it could fall off and cause injury.

• Do not install the device in dusty or damp

environment.

• Do not set up the device at places with

direct sunlight on the screen.

• Make sure that the supply voltage is

within the recommended range. The

display must be connected to an earth

grounded power outlet.

• In case of mounting the display onto

a pivot mounted arm/wall holder/tripod,

please follow the instructions in the

manual of the pivot mounted arm/wall

holder/tripod and install the device care-

fully with the provided screws. Respect

the maximum mechanical load of the

pivot mounted arm/wall holder/tripod. In

case of questions concerning the capa-

bility of a certain wall mount: Please

note the technical data of your display in

the specification appendix of this manual

and compare this information with the re-

quirements provided by the wall mount

manufacturer. We can only give specific

information about wall mounts we recom-

mend and which are shown in this man-

ual.

• Carry the device carefully. The device is

heavy. Make sure to unpack and move

the device with two or more people.

• Do not block the ventilation slots of the

frame to guarantee sufficient air ventila-

tion through the device. Leave a space

around the device for ventilation. Over-

heating can damage the device seriously.

• Disconnect power before cleaning the de-

vice. Please read the cleaning instruc-

tions in this manual.

• Do not place device near heat sources

such as radiators or air conducts or a hu-

midifier.

1.3. Handling the Screen

• In case of dead pixels which show up as

extra bright or dark pixels on the display:

This phenomenon is based on the prop-

erties of the display. This is not a matter

of display defect. HDQLINE displays are

pixel fault class A1.

• Do not push or touch the surface with

sharp objects (pencil and the like), be-

cause it could get scratched and dam-

aged.

• Do not place heavy objects on the screen

and avoid mechanical tension to the

screen’s frame. This may cause the

screen to lose uniformity.

• The surface of the unit may become

warm during operation. This is not a mal-

function.

• If the device is suddenly taken from a cold

to a warm location, or if the ambient tem-

perature suddenly rises, moisture may

form on the outer surface of the device

and/or inside of the device. This is known

as condensation. If condensation occurs,

immediately turn of the device and wait

until the condensation clears before op-

erating the device. Operating the device

while condensation occurs may damage

the device seriously.

1.4. On Memory-Image-Sticking

and Burn-In

Due to the characteristics of the materials

used in the panel, memory sticking and/or

burn-in may occur. These problems are not a

malfunction.

Images that may cause memory sticking

or burn-in:

• Still images with static content (such as

UMD, peak-meter, markers, borders) for

a long period of time

• Images with frames (Multi-View applica-

tions)

• Content that is toggling from very bright

to very dark every frame like time code

with field markers

• Content from low quality deinterlacers

(toggling edges may burn-in)

To reduce the risk of memory sticking or

burn-in:

• To avoid memory sticking moving content

should be displayed.

• Avoid displaying static images that con-

tain high brightness areas like time

codes, markers or logos for extended pe-

riods.

• Do not display images with a frame. Con-

sider removing the frame during multi-

view display or reduce the brightness

level of the frame.

• To prevent damage by memory sticking

effect the built in screensaver should be

operated for at least one hour within 24

hours. For further information about the

built in screensaver and how it works

please refer to the respective section in

the manual.

1.5. Maintenance and Cleaning

Please Note: The screen surface is

very sensitive and highly vulnerable to

scratches. Most screens are sealed with

anti-reflective surface coating which can

be damaged by improper cleaning.

• When cleaning the surface you should

not apply too much pressure to the LCD

module surface. The module could be

damaged. Also dust particles can cause

scratches on the module surface by using

too much pressure.

• Solvents like methylated spirit, petrol,

acetone, alcohol or similar are not per-

mitted for cleaning the LCD module sur-

face.

General Cleaning Instructions:

• First make sure there is no power connec-

tion.

• Spray cleaning liquid on a cloth first. Do

not apply liquid directly to the modules

surface.

• Avoid unnecessary and excessive clean-

ing. This can damage the surface.

Cleaning the LCD module surface:

• Slight dust should be cleaned by aid of a

dry, soft and anti-static cloth only.

• For stains on the LCD module surface de-

tergents and cleaning cloths especially

designed for cleaning anti-static coatings

should only be used.

• For displays equipped with ND filter glass

option a special glass cleaner should be

used.

• Do not to apply too much cleaner so to

avoid the liquid leaking into the frame.

• Read the instructions of the cleaner man-

ufacturer.

Cleaning the Frame:

• Remove stains by wiping the frame with

a soft cloth moistened with cleaning liq-

uid. Do not apply spray cleaning liquid

directly onto the frame. Never use in-

flammable liquids for cleaning a display.

• At no time should cleaning liquid be al-

lowed to seep through the vent holes into

the inside of the display. This can cause

short circuits.

1.6. On Security

• SONOVTS Media GmbH will not be liable

for damages of any kind resulting from a

failure to implement proper security mea-

sures on transmission devices, unavoid-

able data leaks resulting from transmis-

sion specifications, or security problems

of any kind.

• Depending on the operating environment

unauthorized third parties on the network

may be able to access the device. When

connecting to the device to the network,

make sure to confirm that the network is

protected securely.

Please Note: Always verify that the

device is operating properly before use.

SONOVTS Media GmbH will not be li-

able for damages of any kind including,

but not limited to, compensation or re-

imbursement on account of the loss of

present or prospective profits due to fail-

ure of this device, either during the war-

ranty period or after expiration of the

warranty, or for any other reason what-

soever.

SONOVTS Media GmbH will not be liable

for claims of any kind made by users of

this device or made by third parties.

SONOVTS Media GmbH will not be liable

for the termination or discontinuation of

any services related to this device that

may result due to circumstances of any

kind.

1.7. Disposal of the Device

• Do not dispose the device with general

waste. Do not include the monitor with

household waste.

• When you dispose the device, you must

obey the law in the relative area or coun-

try.

• Note (1): Working environment tempera-

ture and relative air humidity as shown in

the diagram below.

• Note (2): The maximum operating tem-

perature is based on measurements in

a climate chamber. Therefore the LCD

module was operated without frame and

with surface temperature of >= 60 °C. To

protect the LCD module from damage a

heating of the surface above 50 °C should

be avoided.

• Note (3): 11 ms, half sine curve,

1 time ±X, ±Y, ±Z

• Note (4): 10 200 Hz, 10min,

1 time per X, Y, Z

• Note (5): For testing vibration and shock

the panel was mounted to a frame that

avoided distortion and bending of the dis-

play. Distortions and vibrations can dam-

age the display.

USB-A 2.0 connector for USB flash de-

vices (500 mA max). Use this to import

configuration files, user settings or to per-

form a firmware update. (See How to do

USB Update section 2.5)

3LAN (10/100/1000) RJ45 connector

Connect to the controller by using a

10BASE-T / 100BASE-TX / 1000BASE-T

LAN cable. Use this for remote control,

calibration, dynamic IMD and tally, etc.

See remote control section 2.6 for further

information.

Please Note: Using remote control en-

ables the user to use the SONOVTS Media

GmbH DCS+ display control software.

The DCS+ software offers a superset of

functions and monitoring options for all

HDQLINE display series. For advanced

customization like creating custom over-

lay configurations it is recommended to

use the DCS+ software as not all cus-

tomization options are available through

the OSD menu.

4HDMI 2.0 (1)

Input connector for HDMI signals. HDMI

(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is

an interface that supports both video

and audio on a single digital connec-

tion. Please note that receiving HDCP

(High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protec-

tion) protected content is currently not

supported at this input. Please note that

HDMI 2.0 is only available for devices

with hardware revision 6. Earlier hard-

ware revisions are complying with the

HDMI 1.4 standard.

5HDMI 1.3 (2)

Input connector for HDMI signals. HDMI

(High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is

an interface that supports both video

and audio on a single digital connec-

tion. This HDMI input is fully compatible

with the HDCP 1.4 (High-Bandwidth Digi-

tal Content Protection) compliance spec-

ification. HDCP is a copy protection tech-

nology that incorporates coding technol-

ogy for digital video signals.

6DP/Display Port 1.1a

Input connector for Display Port signals.

Display Port is an interface that supports

both video and audio on a single digital

connection. This DP input is fully compat-

ible with the HDCP 1.3 (High-Bandwidth

Digital Content Protection) compliance

specification. HDCP is a copy protec-

tion technology that incorporates coding

technology for digital video signals.

Please Note: Firmware version

v1.2100 or later is required to use

the Display Port input.

7SDI Out

Unbalanced 75 ΩBNC output connector

for serial digital signals (3G/HD/SD). The

SDI OUT connector loops the selected in-

put if it’s one of the following: SDI 1, SDI

2, SFP 1.1, SFP 2.1, Internal Test Pattern,

STREAM 1 (Optional QIO BASE module re-

quired). If none of the mentioned inputs

is selected the output is disabled.

Please Note: SDI output is only acti-

vated when power is switched on.

8SFP 1

Non-MSA SFP+ cage for SDI input mod-

ules (3G/HD/SD). It is recommended to

use 3G Dual SDI receiver SFP modules 3.

For details, see section 2.8 and section

2.4 ”Connecting the SDI Signals”.

9SFP 2

Mon-MAS SFP+ cage for SDI input mod-

ules (3G/HD/SD). It is recommended to

use 3G Dual SDI receiver SFP modules 3.

3Dual 3G SFP modules are included for UHD QDP/QRDP series models. Optional available for all other models.

10 SDI 1

Unbalanced 75 ΩBNC input connector for

serial digital signals (3G/HD/SD). For de-

tails, see section 2.4 ”Connecting the SDI

Signals”.

11 SDI 2

Unbalanced 75 ΩBNC input connector for

serial digital signals (3G/HD/SD). For de-

tails, see section 2.4 ”Connecting the SDI

Signals”.

12 GPI I/O

RJ45 GPI I/O (General Purpose Interface

Input/Output) connector. See section 2.3

for further information. A custom config-

uration can be done using the SONOVTS

Media GmbH DCS+ software.

13 Aux

4-Pin-RJ10 connector for external key-

board (optional available, see section

2.7) and SONOVTS Media GmbH Stan-

dard Light (optional available) control.

14 Audio Out

The 3.5mm Stereo Output/Phone mini

Jack outputs the audio signal of the se-

lected input signal. If more than one

stereo channel is available within the in-

put signal you can select the channel in

the ”Audio” menu. 4.7.

15 AC Power IN

Connect an AC power cord. (100-240

VAC, 50/60 Hz)

2.3. GPI General Purpose

Interface

• Using the RJ45 GPI I/O (General Purpose

Interface Input/Output) connector it is

possible to set up your own custom-made

external input switching solution for the

HDQLINE display.

• Buttons and LEDs can be installed any-

where you like for maximum convenience

(e.g. table, tech rack) and be connected

via RJ45 style cable to the display.

• GPI configuration, i.e. functions and sig-

naling can be changed by using the DCS+

(Display Control Suite) software -> Re-

mote Window

• See schematic below for correct installa-

tion.
