OPERATION TIPS
The following eventsmay occur during normal operation.
1. Protection ofthe air conditioner.
Compressor protection
The compressor can'trestart for 3minutes after itstops.
Anti-cold air (Cooling and heating models only)
The unit isdesigned not toblow cold airon HEATmode, when theindoor heat
exchanger is inone of the following three situations and the set temperature has not
been reached.
A) Whenheating has juststarting.
B) Defrosting.
C) Low temperatureheating.
The indoor oroutdoor fan stoprunning when defrosting(Cooling and heating models
only).
Defrosting (Cooling and heatingmodels only)
Frost may begenerated on the outdoor unit during heat cycle when outdoor temperature
is low andhumidity is high resulting in lower heating efficiency of the air conditioner.
During this conditionair conditioner will stop heating operation and start defrosting
automatically.
The time todefrost may varyfrom 4 to10 minutes accordingto the outdoor temperature
and the amountof frost build up on the outdoor unit.
2. Awhite mist comingout from theindoor unit
Awhite mist may generate due to a large temperature difference between air inlet and
air outlet onCOOL mode in an indoor environment that has a high relativehumidity.
Awhite mist may generate due to moisture generated from defrosting process when
the air conditionerrestarts in HEAT mode operationafter defrosting.
3. Low noiseof the air conditioner
Youmay hear a low hissing sound when the compressor is running or has just stopped
running. This soundis the soundof the refrigerantflowing or comingto a stop.
Youcan also hear a low "squeak" sound when the compressor is running or has just
stopped running. Thisis caused byheat expansion andcold contraction ofthe plastic
parts in theunit when thetemperature is changing.
Anoise may be heard due to louver restoring to its original position when power is first
turned on.
4. Dust isblown out from the indoor unit.
This is anormal condition whenthe air conditionerhas not been used for a long time or
during first useof the unit.
5. Apeculiar smell comesout from theindoor unit.
This is causedby the indoorunit giving offsmells permeated frombuilding material, from
furniture, or smoke.
6. The airconditioner turns toFAN onlymode from COOLor HEAT(For cooling and
heating models only)mode.
When indoor temperaturereaches the temperaturesetting on air conditioner, the
compressor will stopautomatically, andthe air conditioner turns to FAN only mode. The
compressor will startagain when the indoor temperature rises on COOL mode or fallson
HEAT mode (For cooling and heating models only) to the set point.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Maintenance
Checks before operation
If you planto idle the unit for a long time, perform
the following:
(1) Operate thefan for about half a day to dry the
inside of theunit.
(2) Stop theair conditioner and disconnect power.
Remove the batteriesfrom the remote controller.
(3) The outdoorunit requires periodic maintenance
and cleaning. Donot attempt todo this yourself.
Contact your dealeror servicer.
Check that thewiring is not broken off or
disconnected.
Check that theair filter is installed.
Check if theair outlet orinlet is blocked after the
air conditioner hasnot been used for a long time.
Do not touchthe metal parts of the unit when
removing the filter. Injuries canoccur when
handling sharp metaledges.
Do not usewater to clean inside the air conditioner.
Exposure to watercan destroy the insulation,
leading to possibleelectric shock.
When cleaning theunit, first make sure that the
power and circuitbreaker are turned off.

4. Remove the Air FresheningFilter from its support
frame (on somemodels).
(The optional filterinclude :Plasma Dust Collector/
Silver Ion filter/Bio filter /Vitamin C filter/3M air
purifier filter, etc. The removing and installation
methods are slightlydifferent, see the pictures
marked and onthe left.
Clean the air freshening filter atleast once a
month, and replaceit every 4-5 months.
Clean it with vacuum cleaner, then dry it in cool
place.
5. Install theair freshening filter back into position.
6. Insert theupper portion of air filter back into the
unit, taking carethat the leftand right edges line
up correctly andplace filter into position.
