Optical alerting with the Lynx Flash
The flash alert forms part of Lynx – our wireless alert system for people with impai-
red hearing. The Lynx uses various transmitters and receivers that alert you to noises
such as a ringing telephone or doorbell, or the first signs of a fire.
The flash alert is a wireless receiver which uses a powerful flashing halogen lamp to
alert the user when one of the transmitters in the Lynx system is activated. The vari-
ous transmitters can be recognised by the different flash frequencies of the halogen
lamp and by the different coloured LEDs. The transmitters send signals wirelessly to
the flash alert. One or more repeaters may also be installed in order to amplify the
alarm signal and thus extend its range.

Location and fitting
It may be advisable for several flash alerts to be fitted in the house. The recommen-
ded location is somewhere clearly visible in the room such as on the TV, or on the
bedside table if an under-pillow vibrator or alarm clock is used. The flash alert can be
fitted to the table stand supplied or screwed onto the wall.
Power supply
Connect the flash alert to the mains, with the mains adapter supplied. The four
LEDs will light up one at a time to indicate that the flash alert is ready for use. The
flash alert will retain the previous alert until the next alert is received.
Function test
1. Start by installing the transmitters that are to be used.
Read the user manual for the transmitters installed!
2. Test the system by activating the transmitters in the system one at a time. Check
that the correct alarm is indicated (see next page). The previously indicated alert is
retained until the next alert is received.
NOTE: The flash alert is supplied only by mains
power and does not have a battery back-up.

When the flash alert is used without an alarm clock, the
external aerial supplied is connected to the Alarm clock Ant.

the range of the flash alert. If an alarm clock is connected, the
alarm clock cable acts as an aerial.

Alarm indication
The flash alert can receive an alarm from up to seven different transmitters. The ha-
logen lamp flashes according to a certain pattern and the LEDs for the relevant alarm
come on.

Battery warning
The flash alert also indicates when the battery power of the transmitters begins to
fail. The transmitters send a flat-battery warning along with the alarm to the flash
alert. Initially the alarm is shown as usual, then the yellow battery lamp flashes (until
the next alarm is received).

Changing channels
The transmitters in the Lynx system transmit the signal wirelessly to the flash alert. They can transmit
on a total of 16 different channels (0-9, A-F). The flash alert and all transmitters must be set to the same
channel so that they can communicate. They are pre-set to channel 9, and then operate together without
alteration. In some cases, it may be necessary to change the channel setting. If two or more users live
near one another, the alarms can interfere. This can be rectified by changing the channel settings so that
they are different for everyone. Any channel can be selected except Channel 0. (Channel 0 is reserved for
a common alert such as a fire alarm.)
If you need to change the channel on the flash alert, proceed as follows: Move the white lamp cover
upwards. You can see where the microswitches are located from the diagram on page 3. Set the switches
as shown in the table below. To change channels on the receiver, see user manual.
Troubleshooting
1. Check that the connection is correct and that all transmitters and receivers in the system are set to
the same channel. If the flash alert is still not working, move on to the next steps.
2. Set the flash alert to test mode: Move the white lamp cover upwards in order to access the channel
selector. Set microswitch 3 to ON. The yellow LED starts to flash.
3. Check interference from other equipment: The red LED now indicates whether there are other signals
in the surrounding area which are transmitting on the same frequency as the flash alert. If the red
LED does not light up or flashes 1-2 times per second it is OK. If, however, it stays on or flashes
rapidly, this is a sign of interference.
Action: Move the flash alert to another location in the room.
4. Check interference from another transmitter: If the yellow LED is constantly on and the red and orange
LEDs are flashing, this means that the flash alert is receiving interference from another transmitter in
the vicinity which is transmitting on the same channel.
Action: Change the channel of the transmitters and receivers in the system (see “Changing channels”
above).
5. Quit test mode: Set microswitch 3 to OFF. Then take the mains adapter out and put it in again to
prepare the flash alert for normal use. Then test the system.

Cleaning and maintenance
Vacuum outside of Lynx Flash with a soft brush from time to time. Use a lightly moistened cloth to dry
off the exterior. Never use cleaning products or solvents.
Repairs
If the product malfunctions it must be sent to an authorised technician for repair. Do not attempt to
open the case of the device since this would invalidate the warranty. If your product requires service,
please contact your hearing care professional for assistance.
Waste disposal
This product contains electrical or electronic equipment and should be disposed of carefully
in the interest of your safety and the environment. Please contact your local hearing care
professional concerning disposal of the product.
General Precautions
• If you cannot see the Lynx Flash, or if you are asleep without using an under-pillow vibrator, you will
probably not notice that the product is signaling an alarm. This is particularly important if there is a
fire.
• Low-energy radiation (eg from burglary alarms, room surveillance systems, radio equipment, mobile
telephones) will not damage the device.
• Warning: External devices connected to the product must be safe according the requirements of EN
60601-1-1, EN 60335-1 or EN 60065, as appropriate.

Optische Alarmmeldung mit der Lynx Blitzleuchte
Die Blitzleuchte ist Teil des Lynx Systems, unseres Alarmsystems für hörgeschädigte
Personen. Das Lynx-System informiert den Benutzer mit Hilfe verschiedener Sender
und Empfänger über Geräusche, wie das Klingeln des Telefons oder der Türklingel
und alarmiert ihn bei Gefahren, beispielsweise bei einem Brand.
Die Blitzleuchte ist ein drahtloser Empfänger, der den Benutzer mit einer leistungs-
starken blitzenden Halogenlampe darüber informiert, dass ein im Lynx System in-
stallierter Sender aktiviert wurde. Verschiedene Sender können anhand unterschied-
licher Blitzfrequenzen der Halogenlampe und der verschiedenfarbigen LEDs erkannt
werden. Die Sender senden Funksignale an die Blitzleuchte. Durch die Installation
von Verstärkern kann die Reichweite des Alarmsignals erhöht werden.

Aufstellung und Befestigung
Es kann vorteilhaft sein, mehrere Blitzleuchten im Haus verteilt zu installieren. Wir
empfehlen Ihnen, die Blitzleuchte an einem deutlich sichtbaren Ort im Raum aufzus-
tellen, z. B. auf dem Fernsehgerät oder auf dem Nachttisch, falls ein Vibrationskissen
oder ein Wecker angeschlossen wird. Die Blitzleuchte kann mit dem mitgelieferten
Ständer aufgestellt oder an der Wand befestigt werden.
Stromzufuhr
Schließen Sie die Blitzleuchte mit dem mitgelieferten Netzadapter an das Stromnetz
an. Die vier LEDs leuchten nacheinander auf und zeigen so an, dass die Blitzleuchte
betriebsbereit ist. Die Blitzleuchte speichert den letzten Alarm solange, bis der nächste
Alarm empfangen wird.
Funktionstest
1. Installieren Sie die Sender, die Sie verwenden möchten.
Einzelheiten hierzu finden Sie in der Bedienungsanleitung des jeweiligen Senders.
2. Prüfen Sie das System, indem Sie einen Sender nach dem anderen aktivieren.
Prüfen Sie, ob jeweils der richtige Alarm angezeigt wird (siehe nächste Seite).
Der zuletzt angezeigte Alarm wird solange gespeichert, bis der nächste Alarm
empfangen wird.
HINWEIS: Die Blitzleuchte funktioniert nur mit
Netzanschluss und verfügt über keine Batterie.
Externe Antenne
Wird die Blitzleuchte nicht an einen Wecker angeschlossen,
so muss die mitgelieferte externe Antenne an den Anschluss
Alarmclock Ant. angeschlossen werden (siehe Übersicht auf
der vorherigen Seite). Dies erhöht die Reichweite der Blitz-
leuchte. Wird ein Wecker angeschlossen, so dient das Kabel
des Weckers als Antenne.

Alarmanzeige
Die Blitzleuchte kann Alarmsignale von bis zu sieben verschiedenen Sendern emp-
fangen. Die Halogenlampe blitzt nach einem bestimmten Muster und die LED des
entsprechenden Alarms leuchtet auf.

Niedrige Batterieleistung
Die Blitzleuchte zeigt auch an, wenn die Batterieleistung eines Senders nachlässt. Der
Sender überträgt das Warnsignal über die niedrige Batterieleistung zusammen mit
dem Alarmsignal an die Blitzleuchte. Zunächst wird der Alarm wie gewöhnlich ang-
ezeigt, dann blinkt die gelbe Batterielampe (bis der nächste Alarm empfangen wird).

Kanalwahl ändern
Die Sender des Lynx Systems senden das Alarmsignal per Funk an die Blitzleuchte. Dafür können 16
verschiedene Kanäle eingestellt werden (0-9, A-F). Damit die Blitzleuchte und alle Sender miteinander
kommunizieren können, müssen sie auf den gleichen Kanal eingestellt sein. Sie sind auf Kanal 9 vore-
ingestellt und können ohne Änderung der Einstellung kombiniert werden. In einigen Fällen kann es
sein, dass ein anderer Kanal gewählt werden muss. Beispielsweise wenn eine oder mehrere Personen in
der Nachbarschaft die gleichen Geräte verwenden, können die Alarme interferieren.
