IMPORTANT RECEIVING INSTRUCTIONS

Visually inspect all components for shipping damage. If any

shipping damage is found, notify carrier at once. Shipping

damage is NOT covered by warranty. The carrier is

responsible for all repair or replacement cost resulting from

damage in shipment.

SAFETY INFORMATION

To avoid personal injury or property damage during system

operation, read and follow all CAUTIONS, WARNINGS, and

INSTRUCTIONS included with or attached to each product.

The manufacturer CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

DAMAGE OR INJURY RESULTING FROM UNSAFE USE OF

PRODUCT, LACK OF MAINTENANCE, OR INCORRECT

PRODUCT AND SYSTEM APPLICATIONS. Contact the

manufacturer when in doubt as to safety precautions or

applications.

CAUTION: Always use the handle to carry the

pump. Carrying the pump by the hose may

damage the hose and or the pump.

WARNING: Make sure that all system components

are protected from external sources of damage,

such as excessive heat, flame, moving machine

parts, sharp edges, and corrosive chemicals.

WARNING: Always check product limitations

regarding pressure ratings, load capacities, and

set-up requirements. The system operating

pressure must not exceed the pressure rating of the

lowest rated component in the system.

WARNING: NEVER set the relief valve to a higher

pressure than the maximum rated pressure of the

pump. Higher settings may result in equipment

damage and/or personal injury. See chart above for the

maximum pressure rating.

DESCRIPTION

Figure 1 shows the main components of the pump. The dual-

purpose vent/fill camp acts as a pressure relief valve in case

of accidental reservoir pressurization. To provide an access

port at the rear of the reservoir for remote valves, use a

return-to-tank kit (model number PC-20).

INSTALLATION

Connecting the Pump

1. Thread hose into pump outlet. Use 1fi wraps of Teflon

tape (or suitable thread sealant) on the hose fitting,

leaving the first thread completely free of tape to ensure

that tape does not shed into hydraulic system, causing

damage.

2. Install a pressure gauge in-line from the pump for added

safety and better control.

3. Connect the hose to your cylinder or tool.

Pump Venting

This pump may be operated in a vented or unvented position.

(Vented pumps provide slightly better performance.) To vent,

turn the vent/vill cap counter-clockwise ⁄ turn. Close vent

prior to transporting pump to prevent leakage.

OPERATION

Before Using the Pump

1. Check all system fittings and connections to be sure they

are tight and leak free.

2. Check oil level in reservoir before operating pump. See

“Adding Oil to the Pump” on page 2.

Pumping / Using the Release Valve

1. Operate pump foot pedal to deliver hydraulic power to

system. Hydraulic pressure will be maintained until

release valve is open.

2. Open the release valve and release hydraulic pressure by

pressing the release valve down (see figure 1, item A).

Relief Valve Adjustment

All pumps contain a factory set relief valve to prevent over-

pressurization of the system. Lower pressure settings can be

ontained. Contact you authorized service center.

Air Removal

Removing air from the hydraulic system will help the cylinder

to advance and retract smoothly.

1. Vent pump reservoir.

2. Position the pump at a higher elevation than the cylinder.

3. Position the cylinder with the plunger-end down (see

figure 2). If using a pull cylinder, position the cylinder with

the plunger-end up.

4. Operate the pump to fully extend the cylinder. If using a

pull cylinder, operate the pump to fully retract the cylinder.

5. Open the release valve to retract the cylinder (extend the

cylinder if using a pull cylinder). This will force trapped air

to move up to the pump reservoir.

6. Repeat steps 1-5 untill the cylinder moves smoothly.

7. Add oil if necessary.

MAINTENANCE

Check oil level regularly.

Use only Enerpac hydraulic oil with these pumps to promote

long pump life and protect your warranty. Viton and EPR seal

kits are available for some hand pumps. Contact your

Enerpac representative for more information on these

products and their applications.

Adding Oil to the Pump

WARNING: Always add oil with the cylinders

fully retracted or the system will contain more

oil than the reservoir can hold. (With pull

cylinders, the cylinders should be fullly extended.)

1. Remove the vent/fill cap from the reservoir.

2. Fill reservoir only to level mark shown on pump.

3. Remove air from system if necessary. See "Air Removal".

Recheck oil level after removing air from the system.

4. Return the vent/fill cap to the reservoir.

Note: If you are not venting the pump, some air must be

left in the reservoir for the pump to function properly. If

the reservoir is completely filled, a vacuum will form,

preventing oil from flowing out of the pump.

Keeping Oil Lines Clean

When coupler halves are disconnected, always screw on dust

caps. Dirt or foreign matter may cause damage to pump,

cylinder, or valve.

Changing the Oil

The reservoir should be drained and refilled with Enerpac oil

at least once every 12 months. If the pump is used in dirty

environments, the oil should be changed more often.

1. Remove the vent/fill cap from the reservoir.

2. Tilt pump to drain out old oil.

3. Fill reservoir with clean oil to the level mark.

4. Replace the vent/fill cap.

5. Dipose of used oil properly.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

if a problem exists. For repair service, contact an authorized

service center in your area.
