Save time and money with MCX
controllers and MMIMYK interface
To make the correct installation of your MMIMYK please follow this
programming guide
User manual
1.0 Introduction
MMIMYK is the advanced “all in one” device that performs up to three different functions: -
Programming module - Gateway - Data logger. It has a bright graphic display and a keyboard that
enable to configure the module to run several functions. It has also a slot for MMC card (Multi Media
Card) to extend the memory capacity
This guide will help you to install the MMIMYK correctly when it is used as a gateway or datalogger.
1.1 Purpose of the
document
MMIMYK has among others the functionalities of CAN/RS485 <- -> USB gateway and Datalogger. For
some application this means that MMIMYK will have a fixed installation. In order to make the correct
setup and avoid problems this document provides the installation guidelines.

It must be considered that this supply is not isolated with respect to CANbus or RS485. Therefore, if
the system contains other devices that have a non isolated power-supply, MMIMYK must have a
dedicated supply.
RJ11
The connection through RJ11 to an MCX supplies power to MMIMYK and provides directly the
CANbus connection.
USB
MYK can be supplied with power from the host USB port. Since current consumption can be high
make sure that the port is of “high-current” type and can supply up to 500 mA as from USB 2.0
specification. The USB port on MMIMYK is galvanically isolated with respect to the fieldbus
connections.
Mounting
MMIMYK can be conveniently mounted into a DIN-rail.
The cabinet where MMIMYK is mounted should be mainly vibration free in order to avoid problems
on the USB connector or memory card.

Note
IMPORTANT NOTE
In order to guarantee a reliable USB connection to a host device (i.e. industrial PC) special attention
has to be paid:
• place a cable holder close to MMIMYK in order to keep USB connector firmly in place;
• USB cable length: <1 m;
• USB cable type: shielded, possibly with ferrite clamp;
• place MMIMYK and route USB cable far from noise sources (inverter, motors, contactors etc.);
• place ferrite clamps on RS485 and CANbus close to MMIMYK;
• For the fieldbus installation refer to
"AC-E-IT_HwNetworkSpecification_DKRCC.PS.RI0.F1.02_520H5537".

3.0 General
considerations
Data logging
For the data logging functionality in a fixed installation the 24 Vac power supply is the preferred one.
In case of powerfail MMIMYK has enough energy stored in order to save all the last acquired data to
the memory card.
USB gateway
In an electomagnetically noisy environment the reliability of the USB connection is highly dependent
on the USB host interface on the PC. Normally industrial PCs or User Interfaces have a high quality
interface that is suited for such applications. On the other hand low cost consumer products might be
subject to EMC/EMI problems and as a consequence have a non reliable USB connection.
