The FX Series system’s individual telephony and computer components integrate into an effective
platform for computer/telephony integration (CTI) applications. While the telephony portion alone
provides cost-effective voice communications, the computer portion enhances that communications with
applications that maximize the telephone system’s features.
Introducing The CTI Applications
While new innovative CTI applications become available every day, currently available applications that
make effective use of the FX Series system’s CTI capability include those listed below.
The FX Series CTI platform includes these applications as an integral part of the system. To activate an
application, an installing agent merely purchases the application from Comdial and then receives a user
number that enables the software key to unlock the feature.
•wideopen.office—This application is a Telephony Services Application Programming Interface
(TSAPI) -compliant server that allows TSAPI applications (such as FastCall Professional,
wideopen.call, and wideopen.group) to connect and communicate with the FX Series system. In
addition to the application software, the system requires a network interface card and serial port
expansion card to support the wideopen.office application.
•Versatile Voice Processing (VVP)—VVP is a full-featured voice mail system application that
provides users with advanced message handling capability. VVP includes the operating software
and a voice card to support its operation.
Along with the special-purpose, key-activated CTI applications listed above, the FX Series system
computer includes off-the-shelf software listed below:
•Windows NToperating system software—Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, WA
•pcANYWHEREremote administration software—Symantec Corporation, Cupertino, CA
95014
•AdobeAcrobatReader electronic document viewing software
—Adobe Systems Inc. San Jose CA 95110-2704
In addition to the previously listed off-the-shelf software, the FX series system computer provides some
versatile and useful utilities for the installer’s convenience. These utilities include the following items:
•Visual Man-Machine Interface (VMMI) programming software
•Electronic product documentation—viewable with the AdobeAcrobatReader.
