Safety
• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years
and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or
mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if
they have been given supervision or instruction concerning
use of theappliance in asafe way and understand
thehazards involved.
• Children shall not play with theappliance.
• Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children
without supervision.
• Always use aresidual current device (RCD or RCCB) which
trips at < 30 mA between thepump and thepower supply.
• Always inspect thepump before using it, especially thepower
lead and plug. Never use thepump if it is damaged.
• If thesupply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by
themanufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified
persons in order to avoid ahazard.
• Make sure that any electrical connections (extension lead,
RCD, etc.) are placed in adry place and protected from
overflowing water and floods.
• Keep themains lead away from extreme heat, oil and sharp edges.
• Thepump is not designed for continuous use.
• Protect thepump from frost.

4
ENGLISH
• Thepump is suitable for pumping clean water or dirty water
with amaximum particle size of 5 mm for 40-9032 and 25 mm
for 40-9033, swimming pools and ornamental ponds. Bear
in mind that sand and other abrasive substances in theliquid
that is pumped will increase thewear and tear and reduce
thecapacity of thepump.
• Thepump must never be used in aswimming pool or pond if
people or animals are still in thewater.
• Thepump is waterproof and submersible to adepth of max 7/7 m.
• Make sure that thepressure head does not exceed 7/8 m.
• Thepump must not be used for corrosive, combustible
or explosive liquids such as petrol, kerosene or thinners.
Neithermust thepump be used for grease, oil, brackish
water, seawater, urine or toilet sewage water.
• Thetemperature of thepumped liquid must not be greater
than 35 ºC.
• Dry-running should be avoided, as this soon wears thepump
out. Turn off thepump as soon as water has stopped coming
out of thehose.
• Avoid running thepump with thedischarge outlet closed for
more than ten minutes.
• Thepump has abuilt-in thermal overload motor protection and
automatically shuts off when it gets overheated. Themotor
starts again automatically when themotor has cooled.
• If chlorinated water, such as swimming pool water, has been
pumped, clean water should be pumped afterwards to rinse
out thepump.

Before use
Hose Connection*
Fit theincluded universal hose union onto
one of theoutlets (1 or 6)*.
Note: Theplastic plug (7) should be inserted
into theoutlet which is not being used.
A
B
Theuniversal hose union is fitted with
a38mm (1½″) and 25mm (1″) diameter
barbed hose connectors and a1″male
threaded hose connector. 38mm hoses
provide thebest capacity.
If the38mm barbed hose connector or
the1″threaded connector are to be used,
theend of thenipple should be cut off as
shown in thefigure.
Cut off thepart (B) of theuniversal hose union
that is not needed (if using large diameter hose).
* Thepump has two alternative outlets, upper
and lower. Depending on theconstruction of
thepump theupper outlet (1) provides about
10% less water flow than thelower outlet (6).
Note: Theplastic plug (7) must be inserted
into theoutlet which is not used.
Adjusting the Float Switch
Thelevel of water at which thepump starts
and stops can be adjusted by lengthening
or shortening thefloat switch cable held by
theclip (2).
• Shortening thelength of thecable between
theswitch (5) and theclip (2) will enable
thepump to start at alower water level.
• Lengthening thelength of thecable
between theswitch (5) and theclip (2)
will enable thepump to start at ahigher
water level.

Positioning and transportation
• Thepump should be placed in astable position (especially if set to automatic operation).
• Thefloat switch (5) must be able to move unhindered.
• Theinlet must not be blocked in any way, make sure that there are no loose
particles such as sand or stones near theinlet as this increases wear on thepump
and could even cause astoppage.
• Do not use themains lead or float switch to lift or carry thepump. Always use
arope tied to thehandle when lowering or raising thepump.
Operating instructions
Manual operation
Fasten thefloat switch so it is not hanging
down. Switch thepump on/off by either using
theswitch on thewall socket if it has one or by
pulling theplug out of thewall socket. Do not let
thepump run dry.
Automatic operation
When themains lead is connected to alive wall socket thesubmersible pump will
be switched on and off by thefloat switch. When thefloat switch is raised by water,
thepump starts. When thewater level falls, thefloat switch hangs down and
thepump stops.

8
ENGLISH
Care and maintenance
If necessary, unplug themains lead from thewall
socket, remove the3 screws holding thecover plate
onto thebase of thepump, then remove the4 screws
holding theimpeller housing and clean theinlet (8) of
any debris.
Screw theparts back on in reverse order, making sure
that theoutlet on theimpeller housing is on thesame
side of thepump as theupper outlet.
Troubleshooting guide
Problem Possible cause Possible solution
Thepump runs
but doesn’t
pump.
1. Air in pump, outlet
is blocked.
2. Air trapped in suction pipe.
3. Impeller is blocked.
4. When thepump starts
thewater level falls to
below theminimum level.
1. Clean thehose, straighten any
kinks, etc.
2. Wait 60 seconds until thepump
is purged of air, switch it off
and then start it again.
3. Unplug thepump from
thepower supply and remove
any debris from thewater inlet.
4. Place thepump lower in
thewater.
Thepump won’t
start or stops
under load.
1. Thethermal protection
device has tripped.
2. Wall socket is not live.
3. Dirt lodged in
theimpeller housing.
1. Unplug pump and clean
thebase and impeller housing.
Remember that themax liquid
temperature is 35°C.
2. Check fuses and RCD, etc.
3. Unplug thepump from
thepower supply and remove
any debris from thewater inlet.
Thepump runs
but theflow rate
falls suddenly.
Impeller is blocked. Unplug thepump from thepower
supply and remove any debris
from thewater inlet.
Pump doesn’t
stop when water
level has fallen.
Thefloat switch is prevented
from sinking.
Place thepump so that thefloat
switch can move freely.
