Safety
General safety instructions for power tools
Warning: Readall theinstructions. Failure to adhere to thefollowing instructions may
lead to electric shocks, fires or serious injuries.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Theterm “power tools” in thefollowing warning text refers to your handheld mains
operated or battery operatedtool.
1) Work area
a) Keep thework area clean and well illuminated. Cluttered and poorly lit areas
invite accidents.
b) Do not use power tools in explosive environments,e.g. near to flammable
liquids, gases ordust. Powertools generate sparks that can easily ignite dust
orfumes.
c) Keep children and other bystanders away from thearea where you are using
thepowertool. Distractions can cause you to lose concentration and control.
2) Electrical safety
a) Thepower tool’s plug must fit correctly into thewall socket. Nevermodify
theplug in anyway. Neveruse anadaptor together with earthed powertools.
Unmodified plugs and suitable wall sockets minimize therisk of electric shocks.
b) Avoid physical contact with earthed objects such as pipes, radiators, ovens
and refrigerators. Thereis anincreased risk of receiving anelectrical shock if your
body is earthed.
c) Do not expose thepower tool to rain or other wet conditions. Ifwater gets
inside thepower tool, it increases therisk of electricshock.
d) Do not abuse themainslead. Neveruse thelead to carry thetool or pull
theplug from awall socket. Keepthelead away from heat, oil, sharp edges
and movingparts. Damaged or tangled leads increase therisk of electricshock.

e) When using power tools outdoors, use anextension lead that is suitable for
such purpose. Theuse of anextension lead designed for outdoor use decreases
therisk of electric shocks.
f) If theuse of thepower tool in awet environment is unavoidable, awall
socket equipped with aresidual current device (RCD) should be employed.
Useof anRCD significantly reduces therisk of electricshock.
3) Personal safety
a) Pay attention to what you are doing and use common sense when using
powertools. Neveruse power tools if you are tired or under theinfluence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. Onemoment of inattention while using apower
tool may result in serious injury.
b) Wear protective clothing. Alwayswear safety glasses. Usingprotective
clothing such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear defenders
decreases therisk of injury.
c) Avoid accidental starts. Makesure that thepower switch is set to OFF before
plugging thepower tool into awall socket, fitting thebattery or picking up/
carrying thepowertool. Carrying apower tool with your finger on thepower
switch/trigger or connecting thepower tool to awall socket when thepower
switch is set to ON is inviting anaccident.
d) Remove all service tools/keys before switching on thepowertool.
Aservice tool left on any of thepower tool’s rotating parts may result in injury.
e) Do not overreach. Makesure you stand steady and well balanced at alltimes.
Thisensures better control over thepower tool in unexpected situations.
f) Wear suitable clothing. Donot wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery.
Keephair, clothes and gloves away from movingparts. Loose-fitting clothes,
jewellery or long hair could become caught in movingparts.
g) If equipment for dust extraction or collecting is available make sure it is
connected and used properly. Usingof theaforementioned technical aids may
decrease therisk of dust related hazards.
4) Use and maintenance of the power tool
a) Do not force thepowertool. Useapower tool suitable for thework you are
about to perform. Theproper power tool will perform thetask better and safer if
used at thecorrect feedrate.
b) Never use thepower tool if thepower switch does not switch thetool on and
off properly. Allpower tools that cannot be controlled by thepower switch are
dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplug thelead from thewall socket or remove thebattery before
making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing thepowertool.
Theseprecautions reduce therisk of thepower tool starting unexpectedly.

d) Store power tools that are not being used out of children’sreach. Donot allow
people who are unfamiliar with thetool or its functions to operate thetool.
Powertools can be dangerous if they fall into thehands of inexperiencedusers.
e) Maintaining powertools. Checkfor any incorrect settings, parts that
catch, broken parts or anything else which may cause thepower tool to
malfunction. Anydetected damage must be repaired beforeuse.
Accidents are frequently caused by poorly maintained powertools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp andclean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp
blades are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
g) Use thepower tool, and any accessories in accordance with these
instructions, take into consideration theworking conditions and thework
that is to be performed. Useof power tools for purposes other than that for
which they are intended could result in adangerous situation.
5) Service
a) Repairs and service should only be performed by qualified tradesmen,
and only with original spareparts. Thisguarantees that thepower tool’s safety
features are correctly maintained.
Specic safety instructions for hedge trimmers
• Keep all body parts away from thecutterbar. Donot remove cut debris or
hold onto any material that you are cutting whilst thecutter bar’s blades are
in motion. Removethebattery before dislodging any debris. Onemoment of
carelessness can result in serious personal injury.
• Turn off thehedge trimmer and carry it by thehandle when moving it short
distances. Alwayshave theblade guard in place when storing or transporting
thehedge trimmer. Correct use of thehedge trimmer will reduce thelikelihood of
personal injury caused by thecutter bar’s blades.
• This product must not be used by anyone (including children) suffering from
physical or mental impairment. Thisproduct should not be used by anyone that
has not read theinstruction manual unless they have been instructed in its use by
someone who will take responsibility for their safety.
• Never allow children to play with theproduct.
• Always hold thehedge trimmer in both hands when usingit.
• Theblades will continue in motion for afew seconds after thepower has been turnedoff.
• Note: Donot touch theblades while they are in motion.
• Keep all body parts away from thecutter bar’s blades. Donot remove debris from
theblades or hold onto any material that you are cutting whilst thetrimmer blades are
in motion. Removethebattery before dislodging any debris.
• Always switch off thehedge trimmer and have theblade guard mounted in place
whenever moving or transportingit.
• Always inspect thehedge before cutting it to make sure that it does not contain
any foreign objects.
• Always hold thehedge trimmer in both hands duringuse.

Operating instructions
Preparations
1. Make aloop in theextension
lead about 30cm from
theend and loop it over
thestrain relief (10).
2. Plug thepower lead (9) into
theextensionlead.
3. Plug theextension lead into
asocket outlet.
4. Press in thepressure points
(12) on theblade sheath and
removeit.

Switching on
Before switching thetrimmer on, checkthat:
• theventilation slits (11) are not clogged.
• thetrimmer and its power lead are undamaged.
• thesafety lock button (4) and power trigger (7) are easily depressed and that they
do not stick or function abnormally in anyway.
• both handles (3 and 6) are clean and easily gripped.
1. Hold thesaw firmly with one hand on thefront handle (3) and theother hand on
therear handle (6).
2. First press in thesafety lock button (4) and then pull thepower trigger (7).
Thetrimmer should nowstart.
3. Switch thetrimmer off by releasing either thesafety lock button or thepower
trigger.
Cutting/trimming
• Make sure that there are no foreign objects (e.g. wire
fences or posts) hidden in thehedge which you are
about tocut.
• Max branchdiam: 20mm.
• Hold thetrimmer firmly; maintain asteady stance
and do not lean out toofar. Beextra careful when
using aladder.
• Move thetrimmer along in aslow and steady motion.
• Thedouble-sided cutter bar enables trimming in
both directions or in apendulum action from side
toside.
• For even trimming on thesides it is better to cut in
thedirection of growth, from thebottomup. Ifyou
trim from thetop down, thethinner twigs will bend
out and there is arisk of holes or thin patches
appearing in yourhedge.
• In order to ensure astraight top edge, you can
stretch alength of string over thehedge as aguide.

Care and maintenance
Note: Always disconnect thehedge trimmer from thepower supply before carrying
out any maintenance or cleaning.
• Do not expose thetool torain.
• Wear protective gloves when handling or cleaning theblades.
• Regularly check that thepower trigger and safety lock are undamaged and work
correctly.
• Regularly check thecondition of theblades and make sure that all thenuts on
thecutter bar aretight.
• Lubricate thecutter bar with anappropriate lubricant if thetrimmer is not to be
used for alongtime.
• Clean theexterior of thetool with asoft brush andcloth. Donot use any water,
solvents or polish.
• Remove all dirt, especially from around themotor housing ventilationslits.
• Store thetrimmer in adry, dust-free environment out of thereach of children.
• Always keep theblade sheath on when thehedge trimmer is not inuse.
