FAN HEATERS

READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY: Read and follow all

instructions. Keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference. Do

not allow anyone who has not read these instructions to assemble, adjust

or operate the heater.

This product is only suitable for well insulated spaces or occasional

use.

1.1 This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and

persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of

experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction

concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards

involved. Children should not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user

maintenance should not be undertaken by children without supervision.

1.2 WARNING: In order to avoid overheating, do not cover the heater.

1.3 Children under 3 years old should be kept away from the appliance unless

continuously supervised.

1.4 Children aged from 3 years and less than 8 years should only switch the

appliance on/off provided that it has been placed or installed in its intended

normal operating position and they are supervised or given instruction concerning

use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children

aged from 3 years and less than 8 years should not plug in, adjust and clean the

appliance or perform user maintenance.

1.5 CAUTION-some parts of this product can become very hot and could cause

burns if touched. Particular care must be given where children and vulnerable

people are present.

2. Introduction

2.1 Depending on the power cord fitted there may be limits regarding where this

fan heater can be used. See section 5 for more information. The unit incorporates

a thermostat and a non-self resetting thermal cut-out to control the heating

elements. The thermostat detects the air temperature and controls the heat output

of the appliance.The non-self reset thermostat will switch off the heater to

prevent overheating. The fan motor is not controlled by the thermostat. When the

thermostat switches off the heating element the fan can keep running.

2.2 When using the heater for the first time, you may notice a slight emission of

smoke. This is quite normal and it stops after a short time. The heating element is

made of stainless steel and was coated with a protective oil during manufacturing.

The smoke is caused by the residual protective oil when the heater is switched on

for the first time.

3.1 Housing made of heat-resistant powder coated steel plate.

3.2Supplied with industrial socket installed in the heater. A 3-Phase cable (not

included) of the correct rating fitted with a suitable connector is required to

connect the HCK-BX9 to the power supply.

3.3 Coupler/3-Phase cable requirements:

3.4.1 Any separately purchased coupler/cable should match with the appliance

and earthing pin layout. The coupler/cable should be approved for use in the

relevant country. The length of the power cord can be more than 1.8m but less

than 3m. If the power cord is too long and heavy, it could cause the cable to work

loose from the socket in the unit or cause a trip hazard.

3.4.2 When connecting the power cable to the appliance, open the protective lid

in the direction shown below

3.5 After use shut down the appliance and remove the plug from the supply

before disconnecting the coupler end of the cable from the unit.

5. Safety

5.1 Before use, please check the marking on the power cord. Depending on the

power cord type this appliance may be used in different ambient conditions

It is the responsibility of the owner and the operator to read, understand and

comply with the following:

You must check all electrical products, before use, to ensure that they are safe.

You must inspect power cables, plugs, sockets and any other connectors for wear

or damage. You must ensure that the risk of electric shock is minimised by the

installation of appropriate safety devices. Appropriate circuit protection should be

incorporated in the main distribution board and/or the individual circuit being used

to connect the appliance. If in doubt consult a qualified electrician before

connecting the appliance to the power supply.

You must also read and understand the following instructions concerning

electrical safety.

5.1.1. The Electricity at Work Act 1989 requires that all portable electrical

appliances, if used on business premises, are tested by a qualified electrician,

using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT), at least once a year.

5.1.2. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 makes owners of electrical

appliances responsible for the safe condition of those appliances and the safety

of the appliance operators. If in any doubt about electrical safety, contact a

qualified electrician.

5.1.3. Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before

connecting it to the power supply. See 5.1.1. and 5.1.2. and use a Portable

Appliance Tester.

5.1.4. Ensure that cables are always protected against short circuit and overload.

5.1.5. Regularly inspect power supply cables and plugs for wear or damage and

check all connections to ensure that none are loose.

5.1.6. Important: Ensure that the voltage marked on the appliance matches the

power supply to be used.

5.1.7. DO NOT pull or carry the appliance by the power cable.

5.1.8. DO NOT pull the plug from the socket by the cable.

5.1.9. DO NOT use worn or damaged cables, plugs or connectors. Immediately

have any faulty item repaired or replaced by a qualified electrician.

5.2 When using the electrical appliance basic precautions should always be

followed including:

5.2.1 The fan heater is not suitable for use outdoors in damp weather, in

bathrooms or in other wet or damp environments.

5.2.2 The fan heater can become very hot and should, therefore, be placed at a

safe distance from flammable objects such as furniture, curtains and similar.

5.2.3 Do not cover any part of the fan heater.

5.2.4 The fan heater must not be located immediately below a wall socket.

5.2.5 Do not connect the fan heater using an on/off timer or other equipment

which can automatically switch the device on.

5.2.6 The fan heater must not be placed in rooms where flammable liquids or

gases are used or stored.

5.2.7 If an extension cord is used, it must be as short as possible and always be

fully extended.

5.2.8 You must not connect other appliances to the same mains socket as the fan

heater.

5.2.9 Do not use this fan heater in the immediate surroundings of a bath, a

shower or a swimming pool or any environment where it may come into contact

with water.

5.2.10 If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer,

local service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

5.2.11 Keep children and animals away from the appliance.

5.2.12 Do not place the fan heater on moving vehicles or anywhere it can be

easily tipped over.

5.2.13 If the fan heater is not used for an extended period, unplug the appliance.

Never remove the plug by pulling on the cord.

5.2.14 Keep the heater away from anything that could block the air inlet.

5.2.15 In order to prevent possible electric shock or leakage current, never use

the fan heater with wet hands or operate the appliance when there is water on the

power cord.

5.2. Do not dispose of electrical appliances as unsorted municipal waste, use

separate collection facilities. Contact local government for information regarding

the available disposal options. Improper disposal of electrical waste in landfills or

dumps can result in the release of hazardous substances into the environment.

Always dispose of electrical waste through approved recycling facilities.

5.2.17 This fan heater is not intended for use by persons (including children) with

reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and

knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning

use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

5.2.18 Do not allow children to play with the appliance

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Position the fan heater so that it stands upright on a firm surface and at a safe

distance from wet environments, sources of water and other liquids, flammable

objects and flammable substances.

6.2 Connect the fan heater to a mains power supply of the correct rating.

6.3 Set the thermostat dial to the MAX setting to set the heater to operate on full

power.

6.4 The fan heater will switch on when the heat level selector dial is set to one of

the power settings. It will take up to 3 minutes for the heater to reach optimum

temperature.

6.5 Once the room reaches the required temperature, turn the thermostat dial

counter-clockwise until the thermostat clicks and the heating element switches off.

Leave the dial in this position to maintain the room temperature. Once the

temperature drops, the heating element will switch on again to maintain

temperature.

6.6 After use and before switching off the heater, turn the thermostat to the MIN

position and turn the fan heat selector switch to the fan position, let the appliance

cool down for two minutes then turn off the heater and remove the plug.

6.7 The HCK-BX9 has an additional thermostat to control the fan motor. If the

internal temperature of the heater is high and it is connected to the power supply

the thermostat can allow the fan to continue to operate independently of the heat

selector dial setting. For example, after operation, when the heater is turned off,

the fan motor may continue to operate to aid the internal cooling of the heater.

7. Cleaning and Maintenance

7.1 Before cleaning the appliance, disconnect it from the power supply and let it

cool down. To keep the outside of the heater case clean, wipe it regularly with a

soft sponge. Where the outside of the case is heavily soiled, wipe it with a sponge

dipped in <50°C water and mild detergent, then dry the heater enclosure with a

clean cloth. Be careful not to let the water enter the appliance or splash water

directly onto the heater. Never use solvent or abrasive cleaners to clean the

heater.

7.2 Clean the cord and plug, dry and pack it in a plastic bag.

7.3 When you store the heater, let it cool down first, keep it dry. Then cover it with

a plastic bag, put in a packing box and store it in a dry, ventilated place.

8. Troubleshooting:

You can solve many common problems easily, saving you the cost of a possible

service call. Try the suggestions below to see if you can solve the problem before

making a warranty call.

For electric local space heaters, the measured seasonal space heating energy efficiency ηs cannot be worse than the declared

value at the nominal heat output of the unit.

Disposal

Environmental Protection

Waste electrical products should not be disposed of with household

waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your Local

Authority or retailer for recycling advice.

SERVICE WARRANTY

Cottage Stores LLP guarantees the product free from defects in materials and

workmanship for a period of twelve months after purchase. Proof of purchase will

be required. Should this unit be operated under conditions other than those rec-

ommended, at voltages other than the voltage indicated on the unit, or any at-

tempts made to undertake unapproved servicing or make modifications to the

unit, then the warranty will be rendered void. The product you buy may sometimes

differ slightly from illustrations. This warranty is in addition to, and does not affect,

your statutory rights. If you have any problems with this product, please in the

first instance call the retailer from whom you purchased it.
