SOLAR WARNING

• Never look directly at the Sun with the naked eye or with a telescope unless you have the proper solar filter. Permanent and

irreversible eye damage may result.

• Never use your telescope to project an image of the Sun onto any surface. Internal heat build-up can damage the telescope

and any accessories attached to it.

• Never use an eyepiece solar filter or a Herschel wedge. Internal heat build-up inside the telescope can cause these devices to

crack or break, allowing unfiltered sunlight to pass through to the eye.

• Do not leave the telescope unsupervised, especially when children or adults unfamiliar with the correct operating procedures

of your telescope are present.

Save your telescope box and packing materials. We recommend packing your telescope into its box to keep it safe during

INSTALLING THE TELESCOPE TUBE

INSTALLING THE STAR DIAGONAL

To attach the telescope tube to your tripod and mount:

A star diagonal attaches to the back of a refracting telescope. It contains a small prism that reflects light at a 90-degree angle so

you can view through your telescope more comfortably. Your Omni AZ 102 comes with an erect image star diagonal—a special

kind of diagonal that orients the view in the eyepiece exactly as you see it with your unaided eye. With this diagonal, you can use

your telescope as a spotting scope during the day to view land-based objects like birds, wildlife, and distant landmarks.

To install the star diagonal:

1. Remove the caps from both ends of

the diagonal.

5. Remove the objective lens cap.

2. If necessary, loosen the hand knob so

that the screw does not protrude into

the dovetail clamp.

2. Loosen the setscrew on the back of

the focuser and pull out the small dust

cap.

3. Hold the telescope tube next to the

mount and slide the dovetail bar into

the clamp on the mount.

1. Locate the dovetail bar mounted on the

side of the telescope tube.

3. Insert the smaller tube on the diagonal

into the back of the focuser. Tighten

the setscrew to secure the diagonal in

place.

4. Tighten the hand knob on the bottom

of the clamp to secure the telescope

in place.

INSTALLING THE EYEPIECE

INSTALLING THE STARPOINTER FINDERSCOPE

Your telescope comes with two Kellner eyepieces—a 10mm eyepiece and a 20mm eyepiece. The 20mm eyepiece offers lower

magnification, while the 10mm eyepiece boosts power. Always start with the 20mm eyepiece. If viewing conditions are favorable,

you can switch to the 10mm eyepiece.

When you’re ready to expand your collection, consider purchasing additional eyepieces for more viewing options. Any standard

1.25 in. telescope eyepiece will work with this telescope. Celestron offers kits with all the most popular eyepieces and filters

included.

To install the eyepiece:

The StarPointer finderscope is a red-dot sighting tool that mounts on top of your telescope tube. It will help you aim the

telescope precisely at targets so you can see them in the eyepiece.

To install the finderscope:

3. Slide the finderscope bracket into the

dovetail slot on the telescope tube

near the focuser. The large window on

the finderscope should be facing the

front of the telescope.

1. Remove the plastic tab on the

finderscope.

4. Secure the bracket by tightening the

setscrew on the dovetail slot.

2. If necessary, loosen the setscrew so

that the screw does not protrude into

the dovetail slot.

1. Loosen the setscrew on the open end

of the star diagonal.

2. Insert the silver barrel of the 20mm

eyepiece into the star diagonal.

3. Tighten the setscrew to secure the

eyepiece.

ACCESSING THE FINDERSCOPE BATTERY

NAVIGATING THE NIGHT SKY WITH YOUR OMNI AZ 102

The StarPointer finderscope uses a long-life 3V lithium battery (#CR2032), which is located on the StarPointer’s top surface. If

you plan on not using your telescope for an extended period, we recommend removing the battery for storage.

If you need to remove or replace the battery, follow these instructions:

Pointing your Omni AZ 102 at objects is easy thanks to its precise, slow-motion control knobs. Once your telescope is roughly

pointing on target, you can use the knobs to dial in its exact position.

1. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver,

loosen the battery cover screw and flip

the cover open.

1. Start by making large adjustments to

the telescope’s position so that it is

roughly pointing on target. To do this,

simply push the telescope tube in the

direction of the object you wish to

view.

2. If you are replacing the battery, install

the new one with the (+) terminal

facing outward.

2. When you are ready to make fine

adjustments, use the slow-motion

knobs. The upper knob controls the

telescope’s altitude (up-and-down)

position. Turn it clockwise to point

higher in the sky or counterclockwise

to point lower.

3. The lower knob controls the telescope’s

azimuth (left-to-right) position. Turn

it clockwise to move to the left or

counterclockwise to move to the right.

3. Place the cover back onto the

finderscope and retighten the screw

with the Phillips-head screwdriver.

• Examine devices and make sure the battery compartment is correctly

secured, e.g., that the screw or other mechanical fastener is tightened.

• Do not use if compartment is not secure.

• Dispose of used button batteries immediately and safely. Flat batteries can

still be dangerous.

• Tell others about the risk associated with button batteries and how to keep

their children safe.

WARNING: KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

112233

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

Swallowing can lead to chemical

burns, perforation of soft tissue, and

death. Severe burns can occur within

2 hours of ingestion. Seek medical

attention immediately.

ALIGNING THE STARPOINTER FINDERSCOPE

The finderscope is one of the most important parts of your telescope. It helps you locate objects and center them in the eyepiece.

The first time you assemble your telescope, you’ll need to align the finderscope with the telescope’s main optics. It’s best to do

this during the day* using land-based targets.

* SOLAR WARNING! Never attempt to view the Sun through any telescope without a solar filter.

CHOOSE A TARGET

1. Take the telescope outside during

the day and turn on the finderscope

using the power knob. Find an easily

recognizable object, such as a

streetlight, car license plate, or sign.

The object should be as far away as

possible but at least a quarter mile

away.

ADJUST THE FINDERSCOPE

4. Without moving the telescope, use

the finderscope’s two adjustment

knobs to move it around until the red

dot appears over the object you are

observing in the eyepiece.

YOUR FINDERSCOPE IS NOW ALIGNED!

5. It should not require realignment

unless it is bumped or dropped. If you

want to test the alignment, point the

red dot at another land-based target.

Then verify the object is in the center

of the eyepiece’s field of view.

LOOK THROUGH THE FINDERSCOPE

3. With the object precisely centered

in the eyepiece, look through the

finderscope’s optical window and

locate the red dot.

CENTER THE TARGET IN THE EYEPIECE

2. Look through the telescope using your

20mm eyepiece. Move the telescope

until your chosen object lies in the

center of the view. If the image is blurry,

turn the focus knob until it comes into

sharp focus.

YOUR FIRST NIGHT OUT - THE MOON

The best and easiest celestial target for you to view first is the Moon. Try observing the Moon at different points in its phase cycle.

The best time to view the Moon is from two days after a New Moon to a few days before a Full Moon. During this period, you will

see the most detail in the craters and lunar mountain ranges.

20mm eyepiece

Focus knobs

2. Look through the finderscope and

locate the red dot. Continue moving

the telescope until the dot is centered

over the Moon.

4. To get a closer look at the Moon, loosen

the setscrew on the star diagonal and

remove the 20mm eyepiece. Replace

it with the 10mm eyepiece and tighten

the setscrew to secure the new

eyepiece in place. The 10mm eyepiece

will significantly boost magnification,

making the Moon appear much larger.

You may need to adjust focus when

you change eyepieces to ensure the

sharpest image possible.

5. Using this same technique, you can

view many other celestial objects, like

planets, star clusters, and nebulae.

Celestron SkyPortal Powered by

SkySafariTM (available for iOS and

Android), is a planetarium app that can

help you locate and identify celestial

objects currently visible from your exact

location. Give it a try!

6. Scan the QR code to visit the

Celestron Tools for Astronomers

resource center. There, you’ll find

observing guides, tips and tricks, and

free downloads to guide you on your

astronomy journey.

3. Look through the 20mm eyepiece.

Gently turn the focus knobs until the

image comes in sharp.

Congratulations! You have observed

your first celestial object!

10mm

20mm

1. With the Moon visible in the sky, set

up your telescope with the 20mm

eyepiece installed and the finderscope

aligned. Move the telescope so that it

is roughly pointing toward the Moon.

INSTALLING THE SMARTPHONE ADAPTER

1. Before attaching the adapter, look

through your optic (i.e., telescope,

spotting scope, binocular) and make

sure the view is in sharp focus.

2. Open the eyepiece clamp (B) by

loosening the eyepiece clamp knob

(A).

3. Place the eyepiece clamp over the

eyepiece. Tighten the eyepiece clamp

knob until the clamp is secure against

the eyepiece.*

4. Loosen the holder clamp knob (D) until

the holder clamp (C) is open wide

enough to accommodate the width of

your phone. Place the phone inside the

holder clamp and tighten the holder

clamp knob until the phone is secure.

5. Launch your phone’s camera app.

Loosen the holder alignment knob (E).

6. Adjust your phone’s position until the

camera is aligned with the eyepiece.

7. When you can see the view through

the eyepiece on your phone screen,

tighten the holder alignment knob (E)

to keep your phone in position. Adjust

the focus if necessary.

The smartphone adapter allows you to align your phone’s camera with the telescope eyepiece to capture images and video of

what you see. You can also use this adapter with other optics, like spotting scopes and binoculars.

You can usually use the adapter with your phone still in its case. However, the back of the case must be flat to fit in the adapter
