Introduction
Congratulations! As the proud owner of the state-of-the-art Asoka™
PlugLink™ Wireless Access Point, connecting multiple computing
devices together to establish a Local Area Network(LAN) is as simple as
1-2-3. The Asoka PlugLink Wireless Access point combines the intensity
and reliability of a Powerline network with the flexibility and the mobili-
ty of a wireless network giving you the ultimate network solution.
This manual provides a step-by-step installation guide to quickly get
your network running in a matter of minutes. We also suggest that you
give yourself some time to play with your new powerline networking
device.
All Asoka PlugLink networking devices are designed and manufactured
to meet Asoka’s and industry organizations’ (HomePlug Powerline
Alliance, IEEE, FCC, UL (US & Canada), and CE) rigorous specficiations
and world-class quality standards. During development, our laboratory
testing team put the PlugLink networking device through strenuous
evaluations and standards. We are confident that the one you purchase
will meet your own exacting standards.

Important Safety Information
This product is intended for connection to the AC power. The following
precautions should be taken when using this product.
- Read all instructions before installing and operating this product.
- Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the product.
- Do not operate this product near water.
- This product relies on a building’s electrical installation for short-cir-
cuit (over current) protection. Ensure that a fuse or circuit breaker no
larger than 15 Amp is used on the phase conductors (all current-carry-
ing conductors).
- Do not allow anything to rest on the product.
- The PlugLink Wireless Access Point should be plugged directly into an
AC wall outlet.
(Note: The appropriate voltage, 110/230V, will be clear-
ly marked on the box).
- Only a qualified technician should service this product. Opening or
removing covers may result in exposure to dangerous voltage points or
other risks.
(Note: Opening or removing the covers will void your prod-
uct warranty).
- Unplug the PlugLink Wireless Access Point from the AC wall outlet and
refer the product to a qualified service representative for the following
conditions:
- If liquid has been spilled onto the product.
- If the product has been exposed to rain or water.
- If the product does not operate normally when the operating
instructions have been followed.
- If the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.

Getting Intimate with your Powerline Device
Before installing your powerline networking device, please take a
moment to examine and familiarize yourself with it. Below is a diagram
of the PL9520-WAP along with a brief description of what each LED
and slot represent.
The front panel of the PL9520-WAP has a number of LEDs indicating
the status of the device. Their functions are:
Abbrev. Description
WLAN-TX Indicates wireless LAN transmission signal.
WLAN-RX Indicates wireless LAN receive signal.
LNK Lights up when the device detects another Homeplug com-
pliant device on the powerline network.
ACT Indicates powerline LAN transmission signal.
COL If two powerline devices are trying to send data at the
same time, on e of them will delay the transmission and
this LED light blinks.

Getting Started
What This Package Contains?
Upon receiving your wireless access point, please check to make sure
the following contents are packaged:
- PlugLink Wireless Access Point (PL9520-WAP)
- Wireless Compact Flash Card
- User's manual
Necessary Equipment?
- One or more computers using either an Ethernet, USB, or another
PL9520-WAP
- Microsoft TCP/IP networking protocol installed on each PC
- A wireless PCMCIA card with it's software already installed
- Web browser installed on each PC
Equipment that can be used with the PL9520-WAP?
- Broadband modem
- PL9920 Broadband router
- Additional PCs with a wireless PCMCIA card
Important: After receiving the wireless access point, please check for
any shipping damages to the carton and camera before proceeding
with any installations.

PC or Laptop Setup Guide
Note: If you have not installed your PCMCIA wireless card to your lap-
top as of yet, please do so. For instructions on how to install your
PCMCIA wireless card, please contact the manufacturer of that wireless
card.
To configure the PCMCIA wireless card to work with your PL9520-WAP,
please follow the following steps:
1. Insert the compact flash card into the PL9520 and then plug it into
an outlet.
2. Go to the wireless card's configuration screen or window. It
should resemble figure 1
or figure 2 listed below.
3. In the Mode field, make sure Infrastructure is selected.

4. In the SSID field, type in the following: PL9520-WAP (This is case
sensitive)
5. Click on the Apply Changes button.
6. In the Tx field make sure Fully Automatic is selected.
7. PS Mode should not be checked.
8. Click OK to exit the configuration window.
Note: If you are using Win XP you will not need to configure the PCM-
CIA card as to XP has an auto sense function included in the operating
system.
PL9520-WAP Setup Guide
You will need to temporarily change the IP address of your PC/laptop
so you can access and setup your PL9520-WAP. Follow these steps
depending on your operating system.
Note: If you have not changed the default powerline password
(HomePlug) or default IP address (192.168.8.1) on your network then
there is no need to continue this setup.
Windows 98 SE / ME
1. Click on Start, then Settings, and then Control Panel.
2. Double click on the Network icon.
3. Select the TCP/IP Protocol entry.
4. Click on the Properties button.
5. Select the IP Address tab.
6. Select Specify an IP address.
7. Type in the following address: 192.168.8.10.
8. For the Subnet Mask, type: 255.255.255.0.
9. Click OK to close the TCP/IP properties panel.

10. Click OK to close the Network panel.
11. You will need to restart the PC in order for the changes to take
effect.
Windows 2000 / XP
1. Open Network Connections.
- Win 2000: Click on Start, Settings, then Network, and Dial-up
Connections.
- Win XP: Click on Start, Connect To, then Show All Connections.
2. Right click on Local Area Connection and then select Properties.
3. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click on Properties.
4. Click on Use the following IP address.
5. Type in the following IP address: 192.168.8.10.
6. For the Subnet Mask, type: 255.255.255.0.
7. Click OK to close the TCP/IP properties panel.
