INTRODUCTION
• MANUAL FOREWORD AND USE
This manual provides instructions to assemble, connect and set the Explorer 2 multi-function joystick.
Any other information is provided in specic sheets to be used exclusively by the installer, containing specic information of each computer model.
• MANUAL USE MODES
The section of this manual dedicated to the installation contains information for installers. For this reason, we used technical terms without providing
explanations which would be necessary for end users only.
THE INSTALLATION MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY AUTHORIZED AND SKILLED PERSONNEL ONLY. ARAG IS NOT RESPONSIBLE
FOR ANY OPERATION SPECIFIED IN THIS MANUAL CARRIED OUT BY UNAUTHORIZED OR UNSKILLED PERSONNEL.
• RESPONSIBILITIES
The installer must carry out "workmanlike" installations and ensure to the end user the perfect operation of the whole system both with ARAG
components only and other brands' components.
ARAG always recommends using its components to install control systems.
The installer will be held responsible for any malfunction if he decides to use other brands' components even without actually changing the system
parts or harness.
The compatibility check with components and accessories of other manufacturers shall be carried out by the installer.
If the ARAG components installed together with other brands' components get damaged because of what stated above, no direct or indirect warranty
will be provided.
1 RISKS AND PROTECTIONS
All installation works must be done with battery disconnected, using suitable tools and any individual protection equipment
deemed necessary.
Use ONLY clean water for treatment tests and simulations: using chemicals during simulated treatment runs can seriously injure
persons in the vicinity.
DO NOT WORK IN THE VICINITY OF THE DISTRIBUTION AREA WHILE THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING.
2 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Explorer 2 is a multi-function joystick that, suitably congured by the computer in your possession, allows you to manage the main functions of a crop
sprayer (spraying and hydraulics) directly from the hand grip.
3 INTENDED USE
This device is designed to work on agricultural machinery for spraying and crop spraying applications.
The machine is designed and built in compliance with EN ISO 14982 standard (Electromagnetic compatibility - Forestry and
farming machines), harmonized with Directive EMC - 2014/30/UE.
4 PRECAUTIONS
• Do not place the equipment under pressurized water.
• Do not use solvents or fuel to clean the case outer surface.
• Do not clean equipment with direct water jets.
• Comply with the specied power voltage (12 VDC).
• In case of voltaic arc welding, remove connectors from the device and disconnect the power cables.
• Only use ARAG genuine spare parts and accessories.
THE DEVICE DOES NOT FEATURE EMERGENCY STOP DEVICES: THE MACHINE MANUFACTURER
MUST PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY SAFETY DEVICES FOR THE HYDRAULIC VALVE CONTROL.
IT IS THE MANUFACTURER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THE MACHINE IS SAFE TO USE,
ALSO BY MEANS OF ACOUSTIC AND/OR VISUAL SIGNALING DEVICES.

6 INSTALLATION
- Do NOT install the device in areas where it would be subjected to excessive vibrations or shocks, to prevent any damage or
accidental use of the control keys.
- Install the device in a visible position within easy reach by hand; bear in mind that it should not obstruct the operator’s
freedom of movement or block his/her view.
- Consider all necessary connections of the device, the cable length, and make sure there is enough space for connectors and
cables.

7 WIRING CONNECTIONS
• Use only the cables provided with the ARAG devices.
• Take care not to break, pull, tear or cut the cables.
• Use of unsuitable cables not provided by ARAG automatically voids the warranty.
• ARAG is not liable for any damage to the equipment, persons or animals caused by failure to observe the above instructions.
7.1 General precautions for a correct harness position
• Securing the cables:
- fasten the harnesses so that they do not interfere with moving parts;
- route the harnesses so that they cannot be damaged or broken by machine movements or twisting.
• Fitting the cables to the connection points:
- Do not force the connectors by pushing too hard or bending them: the contacts may be damaged and
device operation may be compromised.
Use ONLY the cables and accessories indicated in the catalog, having technical features suitable for the use to be made of them.
7.2 Wiring harness connection
Connect the connector of the joystick to the connector of the relevant harness; after making sure it is correctly inserted, press until it locks.

• ISOBUS adapter cable
Connect the joystick connector to the adapter; join the other end with the IN-CAB CONNECTOR; after ensuring correct insertion, turn the ring nut
clockwise until it locks.

Keys configuration
- Allows selecting the input and auxiliary functions types used to assign
functions to the joystick keys.
Available options: Single or Dual.
The two modes are described in paragraph 8.2.1.
Enable PAGE 2 (DEFAULT: OFF)
- Enable page 2 to assign additional functions other than those assigned in
page 1.
When the function is enabled , use the Bkey to navigate the pages: in this
case, the Bkey will only have this function and cannot be assigned.
Duplicate unassigned functions - Can be enabled only when page 2 is
enabled:
duplicates the functions associated to keys in page 1 in the non-assigned
positions in page 2.
Example: if the key is associated to the "Main valve input" function in
page 1 and has no associated function in page 2, the key also acts as "Main
valve input" in page 2.
Reset to Arag factory defaults
- Allows restoring the device to factory default settings.

8.2.1 Keys conguration (input)
The device allows customized functions assignment via two modes:

In the Dual mode [type 6]:
- A "dual" auxiliary input, which is a pair of keys, must be associated to a "dual" function (for example "Open/close valve").
- A "single" auxiliary input, which is a single key, must be associated to a "single" function (for example "Main valve input").
The number of available auxiliary inputs depends on the number of pages.
Page 1:
11 "dual" auxiliary inputs + 5 "single" auxiliary inputs
Page 1 + Page 2:
22 "dual" auxiliary inputs + 8 "single" auxiliary inputs (the B key is used only to navigate the pages).

In the Single mode [type 2]:
to each key can be associated a "single" function only (for example "Open valve", "Close valve", etc.)
The number of available auxiliary inputs depends on the number of pages.

WARNING: ensure that your ECU supports the functions (Dual / Single) compatible with the inputs set for the joystick (Dual / Single),
otherwise there will be incompatibility.

OP from one monitor to the other.
NOTE: The auxiliary input devices like the Joystick can be loaded ONLY
on VT with INSTANCE 1 (address on the communication BUS).

8.4 Functions assignment
To use the Joystick functions, it is necessary to assign keys to functions, which can be done automatically or individually.
8.4.1 Automatically loading ARAG functions
The Explorer 2 Joystick connected to an ARAG ECU (compatible with version 3.4.1 or later) allows the automatic implementation of the preset ARAG
functions.
After the rst conguration the Virtual Terminal may ask for the auxiliary joystick to be enabled.
8.4.2 ARAG default functions
To know the default ARAG assignments corresponding to your application, please refer to the relevant manual.
