The Alcatel-Lucent 3 Port PoE (Power over Ethernet) Gigabit Adapter (referred to as the
Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA from now on) transmits electrical power and data to the Alcatel-Lucent
8 Series Phones over standard twisted-pair cables in an Ethernet network.
It is an Ethernet switch that allows gigabit network access for a PC that is associated with a
series 8 phone without modifying the existing Ethernet infrastructure. The aim is to provide a
separate 1 GB connection for the PC. This feature is not possible if the PC is connected
through the IP phone.
The Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA can draw power over the Ethernet (PoE), or locally using an
adaptor.
The Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA provides:
- one 10/100/1000BASE-T upstream LAN Port,
- one 10/100BASE-T downstream device port for phone,
- one 10/100/1000BASE-T downstream device port for PC,
- power for the phone that is connected to the phone port.
1.1 Restriction
The Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA is guaranteed to work with Alcatel-Lucent Series 8 Phones only.
1.2 Functional components
1.2.1 LAN port
The 1 GB LAN port can support both types of Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE):
- for power delivery on either signal pair (pin 1, 2, 3, 6), or
- unused pairs (pin 4, 5, 7, and 8).
This port is capable of 10/100 Mbps connections with auto-negotiation.
1.2.2 Phone port
The phone port is a PoE PSE compliant port that supports class 0, class 1 or class 2 type
Powered Devices up to 6.49W. The PoE function of a phone will shut down if the phone
consumes actual power of more than 7W or 180mA.
This port is capable of 10/100 Mbps connections with auto-negotiation.
1.2.3 PC port
The 1 GB PC port is capable of linking at 10/100 Mbps with auto-negotiation.
1.2.4 Console port RS232C
This serial port (DB-9 connector) is configured as a data communication equipment connector.

You can connect a PC to this port to configure the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA using a Command
Line Interface (CLI).
1.2.5 Power connector
This is used to accept power from a 48 V DC local power adaptor.
1.2.6 Power adaptor
This is used to supply 48 V DC from local wall power. Model name: FSP025-1AD207A
The connection to the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA must comply with the following standard for
cable type: IEC320 C14.
The Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA is not supplied with country compatible cables. You must provide
specific cables separately.
1.3 Power consumption and cabling
The Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA consumes a maximum power of 12.95W when powered by a PSE
over Ethernet. An IP Phone consumes an average of 2-3W.

The Alcatel-Lucent 3 port PoE Gigabit Adapter has single color LEDs to indicate the correct
functionality of all the components and functions. The LEDs can be:
- OFF (if the monitored function or component is not active or connected),
- ON (if the monitored function is active or connected),
- BLINKING (if the monitored component is transmitting and receiving).

You can install the Alcatel-Lucent 3 port PoE Gigabit Adapter on a desktop in a horizontal
position.
The network cables for the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA must meet the following basic
requirements:
- shielded twisted pair Category 5 enhanced (CAT5E),
- RJ-45 connector,
- 4 pair,
- straight through pin out,
- shielded connectors.
Maximum cable lengths are as follows:
- Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA LAN port to the IP network: 100 meters,
- Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA phone port to the 8 series phone:
• 100 meters if the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA is powered locally,
• 3 meters if the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA is powered over Ethernet.
- Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA PC port to PC: 100 meters.
If not using PoE, make sure the Alcatel-Lucent PoE GA is connected to an approved 48 V DC
adaptor that is connected to a grounded power outlet.
Verify that all the components are properly installed. If one or more components appear to be
malfunctioning, test them in an alternate environment to ensure that they are working properly.
